OverviewThe Public Health Nurse promotes access to care among school-age children by supporting and providing technical assistance to school nurses in approximately 75 public and private schools in Chittenden County. The position engages school nurses to meet health standards, improve record keeping, track vaccination rates, and develop technical and leadership skills. The Public Health Nurse promotes the Vermont Department of Health\'s "Essential School Health Services" system for public schools, and the adoption of electronic health record systems. Through annual visits and on-going support to all public schools in Chittenden County the Public Health Nurse provides school personnel with up-to-date health information and national best practices.The Public Health Nurse works closely with colleagues in the Burlington District Office, in other District Offices, and in the Central Office of the Health Department.
