Job Description


Administers roentgen rays and radioactive substances to patients. Operates x-ray equipment, develops film, prepare patient\'s room, equipment, supplies and medications. Provides patient services using imaging modalities.
Education

  • Associate\'s degree in Radiology required or
  • Bachelor\'s degree in Radiology required
Licenses and Certifications
  • Maryland State License required and
  • ARRT Registered with ARRT required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to comprehend and follow the policies and procedures for Southern Maryland Hospital Center.
  • Ability to read, write and speak or communicate in English to successfully accomplish the essential duties of the position.

  • Reports to work appropriately groomed and in compliance with hospital/departmental dress code.
  • Wears identification badge while on duty.
  • Demonstrates the ability to take responsibility for professional development. Updates knowledge and skills to maintain competency.
  • Radiation Training Competency. Technologist Annual Clinical Competency, PACS Application Competency, and CR Training competency completed annually.
  • Prepare room, equipment, medicine and materials as needed for patients.
  • Cleans and disinfects x-ray room and equipment.
  • Prepare barium preparation and other chemical mixture for x-rays.
  • Prepare patient for x-rays, explains procedures, transfers patient to table, position patient, and assists patient at end of procedure.
  • Follow prescribed techniques in administrating general and specific x-rays. Adjusts equipment, determines proper voltage, current, and desired exposure time. Arranges immobilization and support devices to obtain position of patient and adjusts the lead shield and selects proper film.
  • Radiographs all incoming patients.
  • Observes patient and machine during procedures and reports unusual occurrences and records patient\'s condition.
  • Routinely maintains stock supplies and performs general office duties such as writing reports.
  • Assists chief technologist in maintaining radiographic technique charts.
  • Transports patients
  • Follow infection control guidelines applicable to the section.
  • Efficiently takes mobile x-ray unit to patient\'s room or emergency room.
  • Works holidays, weekends, and takes call as necessary.
  • Performs all related duties as assigned.
