JOB OVERVIEW

• This position is assigned to the Psychiatric Nurse under the Psychiatrist and Health Services Administrator.
• Provide activities-related services to inmates on the mental health caseload with the focus of services covering inmates housed on the Mental Health Treatment Unit.
• Provide treatment services and recreation activities using a variety of techniques to enhance the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of clients.
• Help reduce symptoms of depression, stress, and anxiety, and help clients recover basic motor functions and reasoning abilities.
• Help clients build confidence and socialize effectively to enable greater independence and to help reduce the long-term effects of the client\xe2\x80\x99s mental illness.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Generally acquired through a combination of education and experience.
• Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree in either Occupational Therapy, Recreation Therapy, or in the human services field.
• Two years of experience in an in-patient mental health setting is required.
• Experience working in a correctional setting is preferred.
• Certification as a Recreation therapist is preferred but not required.
