Description


The Dane County Sheriff\'s Office has two (2) full-time (1.0 FTE) vacancies and one (1) part-time (0.5 FTE) vacancy for the Re-Entry Coordinator (Project) position. One full-time position is 10am - 6pm and one full-time position is 3pm - 11pm. Both full-time positions have the ability to flex hours. The part-time position will be weekends and some weekdays.

These positions are funded for one year through a grant with the potential for position(s) to receive continued funding through the county budget process.

The eligible list created from this posting will be used for future Re-Entry Coordinator vacancies for the next six (6) months.

DEFINITION
Under the supervision of the Security Services Lieutenant, provides information and assistance connecting jail residents to programs and community services, to include public and privately funded options. Provides assessments and short-term follow up supportive services to residents who are being released from the Dane County Jail. Develops case plans which build on the strengths of the individuals, families and community resources. Works collaboratively with internal and external services in order to advocate for residents to secure services that appropriately fit their needs. This position will require evening hours and some weekends. This position is funded for one year through a grant with the potential for position(s) to receive continued funding through the county budget process.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Provide intake, screening and assessment for residents incarcerated at the Dane County Jail to determine strengths and immediate needs, primarily focused on those who are incarcerated for short periods of time; develop client centered case plans to address immediate and longer term needs; supplying tangible resources and referrals to agencies that can fulfill the needs. Organize supportive services for the individuals to utilize once released from the jail. Work closely with community agencies, treatment personnel, and other appropriate services providers. Assist in the coordination and facilitation of services for the client\xe2\x80\x99s reentry plan. Maintain a caseload of clients who will be releasing from the jail. Complete referrals for a number of different agencies statewide. Conduct assessment and placement interviews for residents seeking treatment or long term transitional care. Utilizing databases, written and computer based informational resources to identify, evaluate and refer to programs. Maintain excellent and diligent paperless documentation of services provided, and maintain client files using several database systems.

Education, Experience & Special Requirements



Education, Training and Experience:
Individuals must possess a Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree in social work, human services, criminal justice, psychology, or a closely related field. Individuals with a Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree must also possess at least two (2) years of professional experience working with any of the following: Criminal offenders\xe2\x80\x99 rehabilitation work; Ex-offender client population in the criminal justice system; Restorative justice practices (the restorative justice practice can be in the following areas: criminal justice system, community-based program.); or facilitating programs and services for at risk populations.

Special Requirements
: Valid Wisconsin driver\xe2\x80\x99s license (or eligibility for), access to personal transportation is required. Lifting 20 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects. Maintain driver\xe2\x80\x99s license and access to reliable transportation while employed in position.

Background Check Statement: Some positions may require a criminal background check which can include fingerprinting due to the nature of the job\'s responsibilities. Wisconsin\'s Fair Employment Law, s. 111.31 \xe2\x80\x93 111.395, Wis. Stats., prohibits discrimination because of an arrest or conviction record. However, Dane County may disqualify an applicant if the position\'s responsibilities are substantially related to the applicant\'s criminal history (e.g., the nature of the crime and its relationship to the position, whether hiring, transferring or promoting an applicant would pose an unreasonable risk to the business, its employees, customers and vendors, etc.) Management reserves the right to make employment contingent upon successful completion of the background check.
For Bilingual Positions:
  • Provide services in both English and the required foreign language (e.g., Spanish, Hmong, etc.).
  • Applicants being considered for Bilingual positions will be tested during the recruitment process. This may consist of either being able to respond to questions in that language (e.g., Spanish, Hmong, etc.) during the interview; or passing an oral translation (English to foreign language / foreign language to English) exam prior to employment.

Physical and Environmental Work Requirements: Ability to work in an environment, in which you are asked to balance holding incarcerated individuals accountable while addressing their needs. The environment is a highly collaborative, high energy and fast-paced secured correctional facility.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities



Knowledge of and demonstrated compliance with professional ethics and boundaries standards and codes of conduct. Knowledge of serving individuals with criminal justice involvements. Knowledge of community resources and referral procedures; knowledge of assessments and case planning for individuals with high needs. Knowledgeable of client centered approach, trauma informed practices and ability to respect cultural diversity. Knowledge and skill in advocacy techniques, and service coordination. Ability to quickly and effectively problem solve in highly stressful situations. An appreciation of multi-disciplinary teamwork. An understanding of the workings of the criminal justice system. Ability to endure sensitive, tragic and sometimes violent and graphic case details. Ability to abide by HIPPA, privacy and confidentiality standards of practice. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to proficiently use a computer and related office equipment; demonstrating familiarity with or ability to learn required software and database programs. Ability to make sound decisions Ability to maintain accurate records. Extensive knowledge of resource and referral in areas including: mental health, medical, substance use treatment, grief resources, housing, economic assistance, counseling and/or other therapeutic interventions, and transportation.
