Responsibilities

Registered Nurse- Emergency Room/Call Back, 0. 9 FTE, 9AM Start

Minimum of 2 years of ED/triage nurse experience preferred.

No pediatrics experience? No problem! If you have experience working with adult populations, we will provide training on working with pediatric patients and their families while leveraging the adult RN experience you already have. We will personalize an orientation just for you to set you up for success in the pediatric specialty you are hired for.

Seattle Children\'s Emergency Department is dedicated to caring for babies, children, teens and young adults, providing complete, coordinated care for them in one location. Our team has extensive experience providing state-of-the-art emergency care especially for young patients. A lead doctor, called an attending doctor, is in our Emergency Department 24 hours a day, every day. We offer round-the-clock access to Seattle Children\'s experts in more than 30 pediatric specialties and to the full facilities of our hospital. We have 38+ licensed beds, are a teaching/magnet designated hospital with nursing shared governance, a Lantern Award winner, and have an average patient ratio of 1:4.

Responsibilities include:

  • Read and interpret labs that result after patients are discharged from the ED
  • Call families and inform them of all positive labs, as well as provide medical guidance on how to care for their children at home and when to seek emergent medical attention
  • Correspond with primary care providers or specialty services when follow up is needed after leaving the ED
  • Work collaboratively with our APP team when home care is needed to be altered
  • Follow all culture results, and ensure patients are on antibiotics when appropriate and that the antibiotic adequately treats the specific bacteria as well as discontinue antibiotics when they are no longer indicated
  • Make various calls for our ED providers when they have an ordered follow-up
  • Reach out to and conduct status checks on patients who LWBS
  • Answer parent questions and calls for patients who have been seen in the last 48 hours
  • Verify medication doses and prescription questions for outside pharmacies
  • Re-route prescriptions for families when their preferred pharmacies are not utilized or if their given pharmacy is out of the medication needed
  • Fill out school forms to include school excuses, medication administration instructions for school nurses, or activity limitation notes
As an integral member of the Health Care Team, the RN functions within the Scope of Practice as defined by the State, the ANA Scope and Standards for Pediatric Nursing Practice, and adheres to Seattle Children\'s policies/procedures and guidelines of care. Responsible for providing safe, family centered patient care. Using the Nursing Care Process, the RN is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care in a collaborative method with the patient and patient\'s family, significant others, and members of the health care team. May be required to provide supervision and delegation of tasks to Nurse Technicians, Licensed Practical Nurses, Certified Medical Assistants, Certified Nursing Assistants, and others as defined by the State Administrative Code. Assists in meeting Seattle Children\'s strategic goals by incorporating the initiatives to support the strategic plans into the daily work, i.e. Continuous Performance Improvement (CPI), ART, etc.

In accordance with House Bill 1155 (effective January 1, 2020), the following areas have clinical unpredictable needs and as a result will have a call obligation within their nursing positions: Apheresis, Cardiac Cath Lab, Dialysis, ECMO, Home Care Services, Imaging Services (including GI Procedures), Perioperative Services, and Transplant Coordinators.
Requirements

Required Education/Experience:- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing

Required Credentials:- Current Washington State RN License

- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers is required for all positions. Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) will be accepted in lieu of BLS for Healthcare Providers. ACLS will not be accepted as a substitute to the requirements listed above. Employees are responsible for any costs (including time away from work) associated with obtaining PALS or PEARS certification if it is not a requirement of the position.

-Nurses working in the following areas are required to successfully obtain PALS within 3 months of employment, and subsequently maintain at all times:-Emergency Room

-As per the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), for nurses performing moderately complex point of care testing in the following areas, a copy of a diploma or transcript of the highest level of academic achievement to be on record with Human Resources upon hire. For personnel trained outside of the U.S., records of diploma/transcript must provide documented equivalency evaluation by a foreign credentialing agency.- Emergency Room

Min to Max Annual Salary$96,116.80 - $181,334.40 /yr

Salary Information

This compensation range was calculated based on full-time employment (2080 hours worked per calendar year). Offers are determined by multiple factors including equity, skills, experience, and expertise, and may vary within the range provided.

Seattle Children\'s offers annual incentive pay based upon performance that is commensurate with the level of the position.
