The Registered Nurse (RN) provides professional nursing care to the patient by systematically applying specialized knowledge and skill as derived from the biological, physical, and behavioral sciences, to the care, treatment, counsel and education of patients with full implementation of the five phases of the nursing process and professional standards of care.
The RN is responsible for the direction and supervision of the patient care team including direct involvement in the performance management processes of hiring, discharging, and performance evaluation.
The patient care team is typically made up of Certified Nurse Assistants, Licensed Practical Nurses and Clinical Techs, Technical Care Associates, but may involve other caregivers as needed.
The RN will direct the patient care team, assigning and reassigning staff as appropriate to meet patient care needs.
The RN will assess the needs of each patient for whom he or she is responsible, as well as the individual skills and abilities of the available staff, and, by the application of critical thinking and independent judgment, will determine team assignments to achieve desired outcomes.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Enrollment in a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program within 3 years of hire
Completion of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) within 5 years of hire
Effective written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to problem-solve
Critical thinking skills and judgment necessary to assign and direct others in the delivery of patient care
Knowledge about the care of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients
Exceptional customer service skills
Basic computer knowledge
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:
Current Michigan Nursing license
Current BLS or obtained during Patient Care Orientation
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree in Nursing (BSN)
Experience with cardiac monitoring, titrating vasoactive drips, post-code care
Professional Certifications to support a culture of nursing excellence
Participation in Professional Advancement Ladder (PAL)
