Job Purpose:
To perform Pre-OP, PACU and Circulating responsibilities as well as to assume many of the daily operational tasks of an ambulatory surgical center.
Essential Functions:

• Prepares the operating room according to the procedure being performed and the patients\' needs.
• Anticipates the needs of the surgical team and assists the anesthesia staff by supporting the patient during anesthesia administration.
• Assists with the proper and safe positioning of the patient and prepares the operative site as directed by established procedure.
• Assists with supply ordering and inventory management.
• Completes required data collection to meet state regulations.
• Initiates IV\'s, administers medications, and ensures patient comfort.
• Ability to assess, instruct, and prepare patients prior to surgery and prior to discharge.
• Monitors patients\' vital signs and other measurements of progress to meet discharge criteria.
• Has the ability to act quickly and safely in the event of an emergency.
• Demonstrates an aptitude for maintaining pace of abbreviated patient encounters, keeping patient flow to a minimum peri-operative stay.
• Exhibits specialized knowledge, skill, and abilities in the fundamentals of peri-operative nursing
• Demonstrated knowledge to clean, disinfect, and sterilize surgical instrumentation according to ANSI, AAMI, and APIC standards.
• Shows a strong respect for co-workers.
• Demonstrates willingness to abide by the practice\'s protocols, as well as state and federal regulations and presents oneself with a positive and professional image.
• Additional responsibilities as required.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

• Prior pre-operative, surgical and/or PACU nursing experience.
• Graduated from an accredited school of nursing with a diploma, Associate or Bachelor\'s degree in Nursing.
• Holds an active and unrestricted nursing license in the state of Alaska.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
