The registered veterinary technician holds a highly respected role at our facility. The RVT aids the veterinarian in achieving greater efficiency in overall patient care. The ideal candidate will have the experience and confidence to utilize their license to the highest level. Will have a broad knowledge of animal science, medicine, and animal husbandry, including a basic understanding of pharmacology and urgent care/critical care experience. Compensation for this position is a base hourly wage + daily bonus incentive. The RVT will work directly with Client Services Representative to review appointment schedule and plan for procedures.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Use your advanced clinical skills to provide the highest level of care
Performs and documents in-house lab tests, including blood smears, urinalysis with sediments, fecal tests, and skin/ear cytology
Performs radiographs, including dental, and evaluates for proper positioning and exposure. Perform intravenous catheter placement and collect samples for diagnostics
Use correct veterinary terminology to complete medical records and handover cases
Give injections (IV, IM, SQ), induce and monitor anesthesia, perform intubation
Fill prescriptions for patients and have an understanding of veterinary pharmacology
Providing wound care, including suturing lacerations under supervision of doctor
Applying bandages.
Perform common outpatient procedures (i.e. nail trims, ear cleanings, anal gland expression, etc.)
Gives clear and concise information to clients about caring for their pets at home
Prepares medications as directed by the Veterinarian. Ensures proper labeling and established verification processes
Providing emergency medicine and critical care, preparing for anticipated emergency situations as well as monitoring the special needs of critically ill patients.
Reviews the appointment schedule and plans for procedures
Comfortable discussing estimates with clients
May be asked to help with General Practice appointments on occasion
Qualifications:
Registered Veterinary Technician License
Minimum 10 years of general practice experience
Minimum 6 years of critical care experience
Able to work M, W, TH, F, SA 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM
