Nature of Work

Special Hiring Rate:
$34,320.00 - Division of Rehabilitation Services

Under general supervision, at the full-performance level, these positions perform professional counseling work that provide rehabilitative service to those with qualifying disabilities. They identify potential problems in returning consumers to the working community and develop programs and procedures to resolve these problems and may meet with employers to develop programs to modify jobs or find alternative employment for injured workers. Performs related work as required.

Examples of Work

  • Counsel consumers to assess the individual\'s ability to obtain, maintain and retain employment and to identify potential problems with the return to work.
  • Provide vocational and life adjustment counseling and guidance.
  • Collect and assess medical, psychological and vocational data to determine rehabilitation needs of the disabled consumer.
  • Determine consumer\'s eligibility for rehabilitation services.
  • Facilitate the provision of medical and rehabilitation services from the Division of Rehabilitation Services, the health-care community and the rehabilitation community.
  • Meet with community employers for job development purposes and to assess work-site modifications that may be needed.
  • Develop appropriate rehabilitation programs to enable individuals to obtain, maintain or retain employment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of the Rehabilitation Act and subsequent amendments.
  • Knowledge of the principles of counseling and guidance.
  • Knowledge of occupations in terms of skills required, physical demands, training requirements and working conditions.
  • Ability to understand and interpret medical, psychological and vocational reports for the purpose of formulating vocational goals and objectives.
  • Ability to establish relationships and develop resources at the community level.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Minimum Qualifications

Training: Master\'s degree from an accredited college or university.
