Department OverviewOregon Health & Science University is a nationally prominent research university and Oregon\'s only public academic health center. As a major regional referral center, OHSU has a varied and challenging caseload. The surgical pathology lab processes over 43,000 surgical specimens per year. The Department of Pathology has a collegial faculty, AP/CP residency program, a post-sophomore fellowship program, and five post-graduate fellowship programs. We are supported by excellent molecular genetic laboratories and a state-of-the-art core laboratory. OHSU offers a variety of collaborative research opportunities and is home to the Knight Cancer Institute, an international leader in research and cancer treatment.Function/Duties of PositionResearch Assistant position in the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine to work on NIH and VA funded translational and collaborative projects to study novel mechanisms of cardiovascular disease and aging. The major focuses are to investigate the regulation of smooth muscle cell phenotypic switch in the development of vascular aging and dementia as well as diabetic vasculopathy, using a comprehensive array of molecular, cellular and multi-Omics approaches, genetically modified mouse models, and human tissues.Motivated individuals with a passion for medicine and science, strong verbal and written communication skills, an interest working in a collaborative team environment are encouraged to apply.   • Bachelor\'s Degree; OR
  • Associate\'s degree and 2 years of relevant experience; OR
  • 3 years of relevant experience; OR
  • an equivalent combination of training and experience
Organizational skills and basic computer skillsRecord keepingInterest in science and medicineEffective communication skillsAbility to work independently with supervision and ask appropriate questionsAbility to learn new software and technologyPreferred Qualifications
  • Experience and training in molecular biology and cardiovascular research
