Summary of Job Duties: The Research Associate is the lab manager for the Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE) lab and is responsible for the daily lab operations and the facility\'s research equipment. This position is responsible for training and overseeing the activities of the researchers, technicians, and students, repair of equipment, ordering equipment, and is responsible to carry out the growth of material.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

BS in physics, material science, or engineering conferred by the time of appointment

Demonstrated experience with vacuum system design and usage, as well as cleanroom. training

At least three years of experience with growth of materials using MBE systems and growth

Experience in guiding students or other workers on MBE systems

Experience in repairing MBE growth systems

Preferred Qualifications:

At least five years of experience developing MBE instrumentation and systems, for example, experience developing and constructing clean room instrumentation

At least three years of functional supervisory experience

At least three years of experience providing training to all qualified personnel to use the MBE system

Journeyman level electrician or equivalent

Journeyman level tool maker or equivalent

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Detailed knowledge of MBE systems
