Sony AI America (SAIA) is seeking a highly motivated, self-driven Research Scientist with expertise in privacy and security. Our team mainly focuses on the fundamental and applied research in privacy and security. The role of a research scientist should have an enthusiasm for breakthroughs in secure and privacy-preserving machine learning. Sony AI America is a remote-work organization - location is flexible.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct fundamental and innovative research in privacy and security related areas, including but not limited to data anonymization, federated learning, on-device AI, ip protection, differential privacy, encryption based techniques, and techniques that are relevant to privacy laws like GDPR, etc.

• Deep understanding of trustworthy AI, privacy and security threats in various CV applications, such as Image classification, object detection, pose detection, semantic image segmentation, etc.
• Identify new privacy-preserving and robust machine learning approaches and rigorously assess their validities on resource-limited end/edge devices, such as Sony IMX500/501.
• Design and prototype secure and privacy-preserving system to empower real-world AI applications across Sony.
• Build long-term collaboration with AI, Engineering and Product teams, seek for high-impact opportunities to launch solutions and advance long-term business growths.
• Publish influential research outcomes, give presentations in top-tier conferences and journals.

Qualifications:

• Work experience with a role with primary emphasis on AI privacy and security.
• PhD (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Math, Statistics, data science, or other related disciplines.
• Publications or expertise in privacy and security, computer vision, on-device AI, distributed/decentralized platform/system design, etc.

• Familiar with Python, C++, Pytorch, Tensorflow, etc.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• (Preferred) Experience in leading or participating in significant research projects.
• (Preferred) Paper awards in top conferences, or winner of international competition award.

The anticipated annual base salary for this position is $145,000. This range does not include any other compensation components or other benefits that an individual may be eligible for. The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include as applicable, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
