RESEARCHER



The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Department of Biology, is seeking a highly motivated Researcher to conduct basic experiments, assist with routine laboratory needs, and conduct analyses in research areas designated by the Principal Investigator. The individual will be expected to work with minimal supervision for defined tasks and is expected to perform some assignments independently which include but are not limited to: conducting experiments; collecting, entering and summarizing data; monitoring results and reporting unusual outcomes.


Duties & Responsibilities:



Performs maintenance of lab equipment and supplies Helps drive scientific discovery by independently leading and executing projects Assists with purchase orders and fiscal tracking/management Performs with a high degree of expertise and judgement in designing studies, analyzing data, and may involve assisting in publishing findings. Develops and improves techniques for the lab Collaborate with cross-functional teams, manage project timelines, and contribute to grant writing and securing funding for future research This position involves research participant contact, research animal contact, and/or specimens Perform DNA/RNA/ experiments: DNA/RNA extraction, library preparation for sequencing Perform other duties as assigned



Annual Salary:

$50,050-$65,065



Qualifications


Master's degree in a related field OR Bachelor's degree in related field and two (2) years of related experience OR Associate's degree in related field and four (4) years of related experience required or High School diploma or GED and six (6) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.



Knowledge/Skills/Abilities




Skilled with analyzing experimental data and planning experimental designs Excellent time management and demonstrated strong organizational abilities Attention to detail, and demonstrate strong critical thinking skills Ability to work as a team and with a diverse group of people Strong interpersonal and communication skills Experience with Molecular Biology or Genetic Lab work
