Job Description




The Utah Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Long-Term Services and Supports is seeking a Senior RN to join the Resident Assessment team. The Resident Assessment team works with Utah nursing facilities to complete in-depth reviews of applications for Medicaid reimbursement for residents to ensure they meet nursing facility level of care criteria. In addition to reviewing applications, the Resident Assessment Senior RN provides support and training to nursing facilities related to Medicaid criteria, MDS, PASRR program and the Admission Record process. The Senior RN reviews medical documentation, interprets Medicaid policy, and must be able to defend decisions in hearings.

A current, active Utah Registered Nurse license is required for this position.

Preferences may be given for the following:

Experience with Nursing Facility Level of Care (Utah Administrative Rule R414-502).

Proficient skill in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and PRISM.

Experience working with Medicaid and reviewing medical criteria.

Knowledge of the MDS and PASRR programs.
Note: as of July 1, 2021, State of Utah Employees must either reside in Utah or be in the process of relocating to within 30 days of their start date.

Example of Duties

Provides medical consultation in specialized areas of knowledge.

Ensures compliance with applicable federal and/or state laws, regulations, and/or agency rules, standards and guidelines, etc.

Assesses situations and applies appropriate interventions to prevent or resolve situations.

Conduct training classes for Nursing Facilities.

Aids in developing program improvement to meet needs or concerns of the population.

Maintains and updates participants\' records and information.

Typical Qualifications

The following includes knowledge, skills, and abilities typically required upon entry into position; however, may be trainable after entry into position:

Proficient skill in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access

Read, interpret, and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, and/or procedures.

Communicate information and ideas clearly, and concisely, in writing; read and understand information presented in writing.

The ability to proactively recognize problems and the ability to formulate solutions.

Plan, organize, and prioritize time and workload in order to accomplish tasks and meet deadlines.

Supplemental Information

Licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Utah.

Risks which require the use of special safety precautions and/or equipment, e.g., working around operating machines, working with contagious diseases or hazardous chemicals, etc.

Work requires physical exertion. May require the ability to stand; walk over rough surfaces; bend, crouch, stoop, stretch, reach, lift moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.) in a recurring manner and/or for long periods of time.

While the position is for a full-time telework position, meetings may be conducted in a state office building.

Typical work schedule is Monday -Friday, 8:30 am -5 pm. May be eligible for flex schedule.
