PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Hiring salary: $25.24 - $31.55/hour

OVERVIEW OF POSITION / DEPARTMENT
The Revenue Agent will collect delinquent taxes, ensure compliance with municipal code, research account balances and maintain taxpayers' accounts. This individual will also provide taxpayers with assistance and information and process tax returns in the Tax Division of the Finance Department. Reports to the Taxpayer Services Supervisor.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESEnforces City codes and ordinances pertaining to taxes and fees collected by the City of Aurora and business licensing through the compliance program.
Collects delinquent taxes and fees using a variety of collection procedures including phone and personal contacts.
Conducts seizure and sale of assets.
Prepares summonses for taxpayers who fail to pay taxes.
Responds to a high volume of inquiries from taxpayer phone calls and walk-in visits and emails regarding tax issues.
Educates taxpayers on Sales, Use, Lodgers, Occupational Privilege taxes, other fees or taxes administered by the division, and business licenses.
Makes and documents adjustment transactions pertaining to taxes, licenses, and audit balances.
Ensures data integrity of taxpayer accounts.
Makes and documents changes to taxpayer accounts.
Conducts on-site visits to ensure licensing compliance.
Prepares, inputs, reconciles, and posts financial data relating to the tax reporting and licensing process.
Interacts with a variety of departments and agencies both internally and externally.
Composes and types routine correspondence and uses spreadsheets.
Conducts skip tracing and performs additional duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
Education:Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate. An associate or bachelor's degree in a business-related field is preferred.
Experience:At least 2 years combination of clerical accounting, customer service and collection experience including at least one year in clerical accounting.
Abilities:Knowledge of clerical accounting and auditing principles and practices.
State law, municipal code and ordinances pertaining to taxes and licenses.
Policies and procedures pertaining to debt/tax collection and enforcement/collections.
Local policies and procedures pertaining to licensing.
Computerized operations pertaining to the Tax & Licensing Office and spreadsheet software applications and standard office equipment.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and citizens.
Handle sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy.
Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Problem solve and apply tax laws.
Research and handle routine customer issues and data inconsistencies.
Skills:Strong interpersonal, verbal, written, and analytical skills. Strong PC skills including proficiency with Gentax, spreadsheet and word processing software.
Licenses and Certifications Required:Current Colorado driver's license with good driving history.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Essential Personnel:When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the city, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel.
Physical Demands:Moderate physical work lifting no more than 50 pounds (with or without assistance) at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects.
Frequent driving, lifting, carrying, walking, and standing to perform compliance and collections work.
Frequent vision for reading and interpreting reports and documents.
Frequent hand/eye coordination and repetitive hand/wrist movement for extended periods in the operation of computer keyboard and mouse.
Frequent speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and citizens.
Work Environment:Works primarily in a clean, comfortable environment.
Equipment Used:Frequently uses standard office equipment including personal computers and common office software such as email, internet, Word, Excel, menu driven databases, calculators, multi-line telephones, and copy/fax machines.
This position may require the incumbent to regularly use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment.
