JOB SUMMARY

Provides comprehensive and professional nursing care to patients of all age groups including infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics in accordance with physician orders and established policies and procedures. Provide nursing services to patients and families in accordance with the scope of the registered nurse as defined by the Tennessee Board of Nursing.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education and/or experience: Current licensure to practice professional nursing in Tennessee. Current certification in ACLS, BLS, PALS (or ENPC), and TNCC or completion within one year of hire. Three or more years experience in an acute care, emergency or trauma care preferred.

Knowledge: Knowledge of scope of practice of the emergency department staff. Knowledge of and appropriate application of nursing process. Knowledge of infection control procedures, safety precautions, techniques involved in administering routine medications and treatments to patients.

Skills: Must have organizational skills. Effective oral and written communication and active listening skills. Basic computer knowledge.

Abilities: Ability to communicate clearly with a positive manner with patients, families, visitors, health care team, physicians, administrators, leadership and others. Ability to maintain a positive and open attitude to change. Maintains effective relationships with clinical staff and managers. Ability to demonstrate emotional maturity by establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. Ability to independently seek out resources and work collaboratively. Ability to conduct needs assessment using a variety of strategic tools. Ability to use computer and learn new software programs. Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and organize efficiently and effectively. Ability to document and communicate pertinent information using computer and paper documentation tools. Ability to think critically and problem solve while remaining focused and organized in a stressful and fast paced environment. Ability to work flexible hours and days to meet facility needs. Displays the capability to assess patient/family learning needs, abilities, preferences, and readiness to learn. Demonstrates knowledge of hospital operation, knowledge of admission process, patient flow management, and Emergency Medicine practice. Ability to rapidly assess the nursing needs of acute and chronically ill patients and their families. Ability to teach patients and families in accordance with the nursing care plan.
