Job Summary
Is an expert in the provision of professional nursing care at McDonough District Hospital. The Emergency Department RN is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the professional nursing care of the patient populations served within the Emergency Department. Provides, arranges, teaches and supervises nursing care within the department. Performs and carries out treatment, diagnostic and preventative procedures as ordered by the patient\'s physician. Performs other assignments as required.
Job Specifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Currently licensed RN in the state of Illinois by the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation. Required to have current CPR (or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire date), ACLS and PALS certification. If employee is a new hire and previously had ACLS or PALS, it will be required to have current certification within 90 days of hire date to be able to continue to work. If new hire has not had ACLS or PALS previously, it will be required to have current certification within 180 days from hire date to be able to continue to work. CPI certification required.
JOB KNOWLEDGE: Comprehensive knowledge of current professional nursing practice and knowledge of the professional nurse as team leader required in this role. Knowledgeable regarding nursing standards of care, practices, and the use of policies, procedures and protocols in coordinating care. Knowledge of current infection control practices, including the use of PPE\'s, universal precautions, and MSDS requirements. Knowledge of emergency preparedness procedures. (Knowledge of specialty-specific patient populations will be considered when assessing job knowledge required from the employee.)

The RN will successfully complete orientation and hospital-wide and department-specific CBL\'s (computerized based learning). The RN will participate in departmental inservices and will demonstrate competency by completing the service specific competency testing / evaluation process, as appropriate to the RN role. Continuing education programs will be offered to augment the RN\'s knowledge of pertinent developments in patient care and to foster a performance improvement environment.
