Description :Under the direct supervision of the Practice Administrator, the Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for assisting providers in examining and treating cancer patients as well as being a resource for the Medical Assistants (MAs) and LPNs. This RN position is within Oncology. The ideal candidate has good customer service skills and treats all patients in a friendly, helpful manner. The RN must be a team player, providing help and support to their co-workers and demonstrating professionalism through adherence to Ogden Clinic mission, vision, and values.Compensation range: $31.18/hour+ DOE. This is a clinical RN position, meaning there are no overnight, evening, or weekend shifts. In addition to weekends and evenings off, employees receive nine observed paid holidays. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: * Functions as a care coordinator, collaborating with other cancer care team members to provide care as effectively as possible during active/maintenance chemotherapy treatment and/or treatment for non-cancerous blood related disorders.
  • Provides health care and education for cancer treatment, including management of side effects related to treatment.
  • Works with the multidisciplinary oncology team to achieve realistic health care goals for an individual diagnosed with cancer, including but not limited to: Doctors, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, Medical Assistants, Phlebotomists, Pharmacy Techs, Patient Care Techs, Billing Specialists, Insurance Specialists, Lab Techs, Pharmacies, Schedulers, and most importantly, the patients and their families/loved ones.
  • Participates in providing treatment specific to diagnosis, which may include chemotherapy, immunotherapy, electrolyte replacement, hydration etc. Documents patient information and treatment steps/results.
  • Manages illness/treatment related symptoms. Helps patients live with cancer, retaining autonomy, independence and dignity. Utilizes mostly non-pharmacological interventions.
  • Utilizes an empathetic and caring approach to patients whose diagnosis and treatment are often painful and life-threatening.
  • Provides professional and courteous service to patients, affiliates, providers, administration, employees, co-workers, insurance company representatives, and all other entities working within/concurrently with the Ogden Clinic Network.
  • Meets behavioral expectations as outlined in the Ogden Clinic Employee Handbook and serves to utilize and maintain resources provided for patients and employees.
  • Ensures applicable regulatory requirements are complied with/up-to-date and follow guidelines that maintain safety for oneself, patients, visitors, and co-workers.
  • Studies, understands, and adheres to all Clinic Policies and Procedures and OSHA guidelines.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: * Initiate and monitor intravenous infusions, which includes gaining IV access via venipuncture, port-a-cath, PICC line or other central lines, and administration of Chemotherapy/Biotherapy drugs and/or other IV fluids/medications.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations, including possible adverse reactions to an infusion treatment.
  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation of all patient treatment.
  • Ability to empathize with patients and families and assist in their coping with grief/loss.
  • Ability to collaborate with health care team to make individualized treatment plans for each cancer patient.
  • Ability to cope with grief, death and dying.
  • Must know/learn proper protocol for reconstitution and administration of Chemotherapy drugs.
  • Prepare and administer medications, including injections.
  • Have knowledge of nursing principles and practices.
  • Learn/have knowledge of oncology practices and treatments.
  • Learn/have knowledge of state-of-the-art developments in cancer diagnosis and therapy.
  • Have knowledge of organizational policies, regulations and procedures to administer patient care.
  • Have knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care.
  • Have knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
  • Learn/possess skill in providing expertise about oncology to colleagues, allied health personnel, and health care consumers as information related to cancer and treatment of cancer.
  • Learn/possess skill in educating patients on medications, treatments, and other interventions related to their care.
  • Demonstrate skill in applying the principles, methods, and techniques of professional nursing to provide on-going patient care.
  • Demonstrate skill in identifying problems and recommending solutions.
  • Demonstrate skill in preparing and maintaining records, writing reports and responding to correspondence.
  • Demonstrate skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.
  • Must possess the ability to maintain quality control standards.
  • Ability to interpret and apply guidelines and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to operate and navigate through established computer programs for charting treatment, billing, scheduling, documentation and other essential tasks related to patient care.
  • Must have knowledge in utilizing clinical equipment, instruments, and supplies appropriate for an oncology unit, and standard office equipment for records and reports.
OTHER DUTIES: * Additional assignments and provide assistance in other departments as assigned.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient records and employee/co-worker information.
QUALIFICATIONS: * Preferred: Minimum of 1 year of RN experience (Oncology/Infusion focus a plus, but not required).
  • Current state RN license.
  • Current CPR certificate.
  • Preferred: Holds or is working toward obtaining Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN).
  • Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing school and in possession of a current Utah State Registered Nursing License with no history of sanction or discipline.
  • Spanish language skills and prior oncology experience highly desired.
  • LANGUAGE SKILLS: Proficient in reading and interpreting documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Able to write routine reports and correspondence and speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
  • Mathematical skills: Able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide simple equations.
  • Reasoning skills: Ability to demonstrate clear communication, including clarification, if necessary, to show understanding of all instructions in written, oral, or diagram form. Must also demonstrate effective problem-solving skills within a multi-layered treatment environment, which includes communication with other departments and/or offices/specialties within the Ogden Clinic Network.
  • Vision requirements: close vision. Must be able to accurately and effectively read small print on diagnostic reports, lab work and other documents within a patient chart, and labels of vials/boxes/bags etc., of pharmaceutical drugs and medical supplies.
  • Effectively manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Computer knowledge with experience in basic word processing required.
  • General office equipment and procedure knowledge required.

  • Must possess all physical abilities necessary to perform the job.
  • Noise level is moderate with constant conversations, IV pumps and other medical equipment that have audible alarm sounds, computers, printers, telephones, etc.
