Position Description

The REPRIEVE Trial is a NIH-funded global cardiovascular disease prevention trial in people with HIV (PWH). The primary aim of REPRIEVE is to assess the effects of a statin to reduce major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) in PWH who are at low to moderate traditional CVD risk. REPRIEVE enrolled more than 7500 participants from 2015 to 2019 with participation from sites in North and South America, sub-Saharan Africa, Europe, and Asia. Participant follow-up ends in July 2023, followed by an active period of analysis. See .

The REPRIEVE Data Coordinating Center at CBAR is actively recruiting for a SAS Programmer I that will be an integral part of a team of programmers and analysts who construct and manage the database infrastructure and will assist biostatisticians and epidemiologists to create analysis datasets and reports. Consideration for a SAS Programmer II position may be given based on experience. These tasks will require project management, continuous quality improvement, and troubleshooting while working directly with the study team. Incoming SAS Programmers complete a comprehensive training program to expand their SAS and Linux competencies, acquire hands-on experience under the direction of skilled programmers, and collaborate with researchers in an environment of mutual cooperation and respect. Programmers are valued contributors to the strategic and research goals of the organization and enjoy an environment of learning and growth. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Converting raw data files into analysis datasets
  • Developing and maintaining programs for quality assurance of study data
  • Standardizing datasets and associated documentation to ensure compliance with SOP requirements and enhance usability
  • Working closely with REPRIEVE biostatisticians to develop Statistical Analysis and Analysis Implementation Plans based on analysis proposals from the clinical team
  • Developing SAS programs which merge multiple datasets to create complex analysis or cross-study datasets
  • Designing statistical programs for data visualization and analysis
  • Preparing data packages for data send outs to investigators

Job Summary

The Center for Biostatistics in AIDS Research (CBAR), an organization within the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, is responsible for the design, monitoring and statistical analysis of clinical trials and observational studies for several major national and international NIH-funded clinical research networks. CBAR employs over 100 statisticians and epidemiologists including Harvard faculty, research scientists, and staff. Investigators within CBAR have provided statistical leadership and support for clinical research networks for more than 30 years. Currently this includes infectious disease networks such as: the Adult AIDS Clinical Trials Groups (ACTG), the International Maternal Pediatric Adolescent AIDS Clinical Trials Group (IMPAACT), and the Pediatric HIV/AIDS Cohort Study (PHACS), as well as the Randomized Trial to Prevent Vascular Events in HIV (REPRIEVE), the largest randomized trial in HIV to date. Results from studies have helped to establish the paradigm for the treatment and prevention of HIV and other infectious diseases, and contributed to international treatment and prevention guidelines.
