Position: Scientific Executive Director
Location: Cambridge, MA
Position Summary
The Neuroscience TRC is committed to development of transformational therapeutics for patients with neurodegenerative and neuromuscular diseases. We have built a network of external partnerships across multiple treatment modalities (small molecules, biologics and RNA targeting) that leverage our leadership in protein homeostasis and inflammation to attack neurological diseases. Internal research focuses on protein homeostasis by direct and ligand directed degradation, neuroinflammation and remyelination and novel approaches to neurodegeneration target and drug discovery.
Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, the following approaches:
Disease modifying therapies for neurodegenerative, neuro-inflammatory, and neuromuscular diseases; CNS targets that modulate protein homeostasis, protein clearance, inflammation and reduce or eliminate toxic protein production; Emerging technologies (RNA, DNA targeting, gene regulation, editing and gene therapy) that when matched to underlying disease genetics can deliver a precision medicine portfolio with a high probability of success to address unmet medical needs. We are interested in common neurodegenerative diseases and opportunistic applications in orphan/rare neurological and neuromuscular diseases. Our group is actively engaged in the use of AI/ML to augment our discovery and translational approaches and are developing novel tools for clinical trials including digital neuroimaging and fluid biomarkers to track neurodegenerative disease.
We seek a talented senior scientist to combine expert knowledge in neurodegeneration and drug discovery to contribute to our departmental leadership, evolution, and portfolio.
The candidate will help drive our early discovery portfolio of innovative internal programs and external strategic alliances that aims to combine cutting edge drug discovery approaches with a growing understanding of the genetics of neurodegeneration. The candidate will have the opportunity to develop strategies for discovery within the NS TRC and across BMS expertise in high throughput biology, chemistry, and computational sciences. The candidate will participate and lead the development and management of an array of external collaborations with projects ranging from early target discovery to IND submission.
As part of the Discovery Biology Group within the Neuroscience Thematic Research Center (NS TRC) the successful candidate will develop applications for target and drug discovery that utilize a variety of approaches including human inducible pluripotent stem cell derived neurons and glial cells and help progress projects from target validation to clinical development.
The successful candidate will be an important leader of NS Discovery Biology group, located in Cambridge MA. The NS TRC is a highly collaborative department, working across our locations with many colleagues throughout the Research & Early Development (R/ED) organization. The position offers an exciting opportunity to make a difference in lives of patients, gain industry experience, and interact with the broader scientific community. The successful candidate will also be encouraged to publish their work and to present at external meetings and conferences.
