General Description

An employee in this classification, under the general direction of the Park Ranger and direct supervision of the Assistant Ranger, is responsible for routine duties related to Parks Operations. Employees will be assigned to a specific City Park but may be required to work in alternative City Parks, as needed. Work is performed on traditional and non-traditional shifts including day and evening along with weekends and holidays. Park Attendants play a vital role in ensuring smooth operation of City Parks while providing a positive experience for Rochester Hills residents and other patrons of the Parks.

Essential Functions

1. Collects and accounts for money for permit booths, batting cages and boat rental fees.
2. Communicates and enforces safety rules and regulations.
3. Maintains park grounds.
4. Prepares and sells concession items.
5. Assists patrons in a positive and professional manner.
6. Communicates effectively with park staff and patrons.
7. Attends training sessions, as required.
8. Park Attendant positions are available year round with varying levels of expected availability depending on the season. Ideal availability for the busy season, typically April through October, is 24 to 40 hours per week. Off season availability (November through March) is 4 hours to 20 hours per week. In all cases, weekend and holiday availability are essential.

Required Minimum Qualifications/Desirable Qualifications

To be accepted for consideration, an applicant must possess all of the following:

  • At least 16 years of age.
  • Valid Michigan Driver\'s License with no more than four points currently on record.
  • Acceptable Criminal History.

Examination Information:
Review of Application Materials: To determine possession of minimum qualifications.

Math Test: To evaluate skills necessary to work in concession stand and aid in placement of the candidate.

Oral Evaluation of Qualifications (Interview): To evaluate employment history, communication skills and other factors related to successful performance in this position. (Minimum Passing Score: 70%)
