New Milford High School is looking for an Excellent Secretary for the Career Center at New Milford High School

Classification II - School Year Position
Career Center Secretary (High School)

Job Goal: To provide support and assistance to administrators, guidance counselors, teachers, and student body regarding all aspects of the operation of the Career Center.

Supervision Received: Works under the general supervision of the principal.

Supervision Exercised: None

Qualifications: * Minimum of a high school diploma or its equivalent.

  • Advanced secretarial skills including but not limited to experience with computer data base applications, word, excel, electronic mail, and / or financial software.
  • Must be articulate with an ability to work with district staff and possess good judgment in responding to the public.
  • High degree of organization.
  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality.
  • Work with a minimum of supervision.
Key Responsibilities: * Perform secretarial duties to include but not limited to: manage & maintaining office documents, faxing, photocopying, all written and electronic correspondence, financial documents and records.
  • Answer and direct telephone inquiries.
  • Support district staff, parents and others with questions and concerns.
  • Works with student on the college process/transcripts etc
  • Working with Naviance and the Common App
  • Organizing the scholarship process and recipients.
  • Responsible for planning events including but not limited to award evening.
  • Schedule and maintain meetings, appointments, and electronic calendars.
  • Maintain schedules and calendars for state required reports and other time sensitive activities.
  • Provide logistical support for building and department activities.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Examples of Duties: * Organizes the Career Center so that all occupational and college information are up-to-date and maintained in an organized manner.
  • Administers vocational and aptitude tests to students including the Armed Services Vocation and Aptitude Battery (ASFAB).
  • Coordinates the entire post-secondary application process to include: maintaining college and career resources, transcripts, scholarships, letters of recommendation.
  • Assists parents, staff and students with career day activities, workshops and guest speaker presentations.
  • Assists in publishing the monthly guidance department newsletter.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by principal or designee.
