Position Summary

The Whitworth University Security Services department serves the students, faculty, and staff of the campus community, ensuring safety and security around the clock. The mission of the Security Services is \xe2\x80\x9cproviding a safe and secure environment where students can learn, and teachers can teach.\xe2\x80\x9d Security Services Officer performs safety and security duties on campus.

Core Responsibilities

Security Patrol Services | 75%

  • Perform general duty security work to protect life and property, including but not limited to routine building checks for fire, trespassers, property damage, safety hazards, and building mechanical equipment operations.
  • Conduct investigations related to incidents including theft, vandalism, vehicle and personal injury accidents.
  • Prepare thorough and accurate computer-generated activity logs and reports.
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with faculty, staff, students.
  • Direct and regulate traffic and parking and enforce Whitworth\'s vehicle policies.
Emergency Response and Communication | 15%
  • Monitor and operate the RAVE and INFORMACAST emergency broadcasting systems.
  • Assist County or State officials in emergencies and with non-emergency investigations.
  • Respond to medical and non-medical emergencies and perform basic first aid as needed.
  • Attend monthly Emergency Communication trainings.
Other | 10%
  • Assist with department special projects and events.
  • Perform related administrative support functions as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications | Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • High school diploma or GED
  • One year of security and investigative experience
  • Basic first-aid and CPR/AED certification, or ability to obtain certification within one year of employment
  • A personal commitment to the Christian faith and to the integration of faith and learning
  • Demonstrated growth in cultural competence, awareness of societal and structural inequities and proven experience in effectively establishing relationships and positive communications with students and other constituents across multiple dimensions of diversity including, but not limited to, race, gender, varying abilities, nationality, sexual orientation, gender identity, class or religious perspectives
  • A commitment to the educational mission of Whitworth University as a comprehensive Christian liberal arts university affiliated with the Presbyterian church
  • Available and have the ability to engage in security functions that include working various shifts (days, evenings, nights) including weekends and holidays, walking on foot patrol, climbing stairs, and physically checking the doors and windows of buildings to ensure that they are secure
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of this position:
  • Patrol the campus on foot, on a bicycle, and by motor vehicle
  • Perform other required duties in all weather conditions with the ability to withstand frequent and prolonged exposure to extreme weather conditions
  • Moderate lifting (not more than 50 lbs.) may occasionally be required
  • Walk for extended periods of time and sprint short distances (up to 50 yards) without undue discomfort or ill effects
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft 365
  • A thorough understanding and a strong commitment to positive customer service
  • Demonstrated professionalism when building relationships with students, staff, and general public.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with faculty, staff, and students
  • Ability to communicate with sensitivity and tact and maintain confidentiality.
Position Details
