Job Description


Purpose

Business Developer will develop utility-scale wind, solar power and energy storage projects in the Western U.S. for the purpose of achieving commercially operating renewable power stations in the Western Electricity Coordinating Council electricity market.

Responsibilities

Coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams on all development stages, including site selection, initial assessment of economic viability, interconnection and transmission, real estate, permitting, resource assessment and layout optimization, developing Cap-Ex and Op-Ex assumptions, financial analysis and modeling, budgeting, support of offtake strategy and senior management investment approvals, and handover to construction and operations.
A primary focus will be on prospecting for new sites and/or progressing real estate for existing development projects, including leading negotiation of real estate agreements.
Coordinating resource assessment, interconnection, transmission and permitting processes, with support from many groups.
Presenting the projects for internal investment approvals.
Identifying renewable energy and storage related business opportunities, which includes maintaining active communication with others in the power generation business and, at times, conducting ongoing research to determine size, nature and location of emerging markets.
In conjunction with other departments, determine project economics and technical characteristics.
Compile reports to management and make recommendations for course of action.
Manage and coordinate activities within the Company and with outside consultants to ensure due diligence are fully implemented.
Prepare milestone schedules, budgets and staffing requirements on projects for management approval.
Negotiate project/asset ownership terms and conditions and project-related agreements, such as site leases, discretionary permits, interconnection and transmission arrangements, shared facilities agreements, payment in lieu of tax agreements, development asset purchase agreements, joint development agreements, wake indemnity agreements and other agreements. Coordinate with origination team on power purchase terms.
Manage and coordinate regulatory permitting required for projects
Make application to agencies; represent Company\'s position in hearings and workshops; select and manage consultants; and provide documentation for siting, land use, air and building permits.

Skills and Requirements

Bachelors degree in Business or Engineering or comparable technical degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
5 years\' experience preferably in solar or wind energy development but will consider experience in other energy fields, including origination, technical services, asset management, commercial real estate acquisition/development, real estate project development or other business analysis or related activities. (The company is seeking to hire a Lead Senior level Business Developer.)
Demonstrated problem solving, negotiating and oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Inherently persistent, determined and resilient nature.
Moderate to substantial domestic travel required.
Working knowledge of Windows based business software applications, including Word and Excel.
Preference may be given to candidates with the following: JD or MBA
Prior experience in power marketing, project development, electric/natural gas supply and transportation/distribution or the independent power business.
