As a Sr Engineer supporting the Implantable Devices Materials & Surface Engineering Team, you will be responsible for designing and conducting laboratory experiments in support of assigned R&D projects for the development of new products with our Intra Ocular Devices and Extra Ocular Devices Technology Platforms, with significant focus in the areas of polymeric materials surface treatment, surface modification and coatings development in Fort Worth, Texas.
In this role, a typical day will include:
Utilization of experience in polymer chemistry, polymeric materials, formulation, and physical/chemical characterization of polymeric materials.
Polymeric coating formulation, surface engineering, surface treatments and associated surface characterization and processes.
Actively support all assigned R&D projects and provide function specific deliverables in timely manner as needed; consistently demonstrate high quality scientific leadership by applying technical expertise to identify and resolve complex development issues.
Analyze and interpret data independently and thoroughly based on critical thinking and the use of statistic tools.
Develop insights into new materials that can have ophthalmic applications applying knowledge in surface and bulk material characterization techniques and surface engineering for coating process development.
Work with multi-functional teams to understand design and medical device manufacturing processes to implement effective and efficient systems for product development.
Participate in development teams to trouble-shoot process related issues and determine root-cause of failures and process variations.
Provide function specific support to product development transfer activities to manufacturing sites.
Provide technical support to existing and new product development inquiries from cross function team.
Maintain and troubleshoot lab equipment and work with external vendors to identify and acquire new equipment.
Strong problem-solving skills as well as effective communication skills,
Ensures regulatory / statutory / legislative compliance for all project work.
Works independently with minimal guidance from senior technical professionals to accomplish objectives. Capable of taking initiative, self-driven, with strong ability for prioritization. Detail oriented and hands-on is a must.
Key Requirements/Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +10 yrs; Assoc.+6 yrs; M.S.+0 yrs)
The ability to fluently read, write, understand, and communicate in English.

Preferred Qualifications/skills Experience:
Degree in Materials, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer or Biomedical Engineering or related field is preferred.
Experience in polymeric materials, and physical/chemical characterization required.
Knowledge of coatings and coating processes
Experience in acrylic polymeric materials/process
Experience in Ophthalmic Viscosurgical devices and other hydrogel formulations
Experience in medical devices / optics in Materials/Chemistry R&D
Knowledge of ISO, FDA, MDD and regulations applicable to the design and development of medical device/science/technology.
