Overview:AIR is seeking a Senior Indigenous Education Expert to lead AIR\xe2\x80\x99s growing portfolio of research and policy-focused Indigenous education work within the United States.The Senior Expert will be part of the team within AIR\xe2\x80\x99s Human Services division. Over the next several years, AIR will engage in Tribal consultation with Tribes, state-level Indian education advisory boards, and/or Tribal education agencies (TEAs) in a dozen states to determine their technical assistance needs and build out one or more projects to meet those needs. AIR\xe2\x80\x99s current portfolio of Indigenous education work includes research, evaluation, and technical assistance projects. Responsibilities:AIR\xe2\x80\x99s Senior Indigenous Education Expert will help develop and grow work through capacity building, policy efforts, technical assistance, and the intersection with research and evaluation focused on indigenous education work.We are seeking an individual who can work in conjunction with a strong team of senior staff; engage in strategic planning; lead efforts to win new work; and carry out this work via designing and leading projects, as well as through strong client relationships. The Senior Indigenous Education Expert will build AIR\xe2\x80\x99s organizational capacity, knowledge and eminence in the area of Indigenous education. The candidate will have subject matter expertise and technical assistance experience providing culturally responsive training, facilitation and coaching support . This position will require proven ability to provide technical assistance to diverse audiences working with state, Tribal, and national partners, including:

  • State education agencies (SEAs),
  • TEAs, and
  • Tribal colleges and universities (TCUs)
Other responsibilities include:
  • Coordinate and facilitate Tribal consultation activities for multiple federal technical assistance centers
  • Guide internal efforts to build staff capacity for working with Tribes and Indigenous communities in ways that are respectful, reciprocal, relevant, and relationship-based
  • Foster mutually beneficial working relationships with Tribal education entities and leaders
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and thought leader for clients and colleagues on Indigenous education topics including but not limited to
  • Indigenous K-12 technical assistance,
  • Indigenous higher education, and
  • Indigenous educational program evaluation
  • Disseminate findings through publication of papers, progress and technical reports, and presentation at seminars and research conferences.
Qualifications:Education, Knowledge, and Experience:
  • Experience working with American Indian and Alaska Native Tribes, Tribal education agencies (TEAs), and/or Tribal colleges and universities (TCUs)
  • Bachelor\'s Degree with a minimum of 13 years of experience, or Master\'s Degree with minimum of 11 years of experience, or Doctoral Degree with minimum of 7 years of experience
  • Strategic management experience over a portfolio of grant and contract-based work
  • Familiarity with best practices in Tribal consultation (both big and little "C")
  • Familiarity with the U.S. public K-12 education system
  • Strong leadership and teamwork skills
Skills:
  • Demonstrated effective business development leadership in writing proposals and setting project directions
  • Demonstrated skills in managing project teams and staff
  • Proven ability to work with partnerships and coalitions composed of a variety of different organizational, political, Tribal, and other interested parties
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a virtual work environment
