IDEAL CANDIDATE STATEMENT
The Department of Youth, Parks, & Community Enrichment (YPCE) Youth Division Workforce Development Unit is hiring a part-time (0.47 FTE) Senior Recreation Aide to implement and supervise the North Natomas Youth Workforce Development Program. This program provides young people, 13-18 years of age, an opportunity to complete a six-week workforce learning program. Daily sessions provide access to, and exploration of various tools and skills utilized in the workforce environment. These \xe2\x80\x9clife skills\xe2\x80\x9d can be integrated into navigating personal day-to-day challenges experienced by youth. The in-person sessions include hands-on activities grounded in Youth Development principles where participants engage in critical thinking and discussions with peers and adult careholders. Sessions also include guest speakers touching upon topics such as financial literacy, interpersonal communication, leadership styles, and professionalism. Upon successful completion of the program a participant receives a certificate of completion, letter of accomplishment, and a monetary stipend.
The Senior Recreation Aide position works approximately 18 hours per week Monday through Friday with occasional weekends. This program operates during out of school hours where staff must be available late afternoon and early evening plus occasional weekends
On a seasonal and/or part-time basis, supervise and participate in the leadership and/or monitoring of a variety of recreation activities, special events, civic engagement programs, human service programs, and/or neighborhood activities.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Employees in this classification are non-career. Incumbents can work up to 1040 hours per year. This classification differs from a Recreation Aide in that the Senior Recreation Aide also has the responsibility for supervising Recreation Aides.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
General supervision is provided by a higher-level position. Responsibilities include the direct supervision of Recreation Aides and/or other lower level City positions.
