JOB TITLE: Ski Patrol Supervisor

DIVISION: Mountain Operations

REPORTS TO: Ski Patrol Senior Manager and Senior Manager

LOCATION: Solitude Mountain Resort / On Mountain

CLASSIFICATION: Full Time / Flex Year Round

COMPENSATION: Starting at $27.22/hour

OVERVIEW:

This is a supervisory position that will oversee up to 40 employees and will be responsible for a wide variety of winter mountain operations. This position is responsible for conducting training, maintaining appropriate documentation and records, keeping appropriate medical supplies stocked, efficient operations of first aid room, maintenance, and upkeep of on mountain signage, fencing and marking of obstacles in accordance with NSAA guidelines. He or she will be responsible for maintaining professional workplace relationships with local emergency services and other Solitude departments. The position involves both field 60%, and office work 40%. The Ski Patrol Supervisor reports directly to the Ski Patrol Manager. This position requires strong interpersonal relationship skills as well as an expert skiing ability.

KEY REQUIREMENTS:

  • The incumbent must be able to obtain an ATF explosive handler permit
  • Have a valid state driver\'s license
  • Have a current medical certification at the Utah, National EMT or OEC level
  • Current CPR certification
  • Expert skiing ability
  • Avalanche level 2, Pro 1 or NAS certification preferred
  • 8 years ski patrol experience with 3 years supervisory preferred
  • 4 years of avalanche mitigation experience at a class "A" resort preferred
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Strong understanding of ski resort operations
  • To act as a positive, professional role model, adhering to the company\'s standards, regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Speak and write English fluently
  • Thorough knowledge of skier responsibility code and code of conduct for Solitude Mountain Resort
DUTIES:

Management Responsibilities:
  • Assists in the hiring, and evaluation of ski patrollers
  • Assists in disciplinary actions pertaining to ski patrollers
  • Has the ability to write-up, suspend, or terminate employees
  • Assists in the creation and updating of standard operating procedures
  • Assists in keeping packets and forms updated
  • Schedules daily assignments for patrollers
  • Fills in for Ski Patrol Manager as assigned
  • Assists in office duties such as scheduling, payroll, and budgeting
  • Manages medical inventory and ordering
  • Manages 1Risk electronic reporting and dispatch system
  • Manages AED inventory and maintenance
  • Acts as incident commander, when necessary, on and off premise
  • Assists in providing leadership and oversight for all daily ski patrol operations
  • Daily communication in planning and preparation with Avalanche Mitigation Manager, Mountain Operations Manager, and Ski Patrol Senior Manager.
  • Assists in maintaining professional relationships with partnering agencies and other Solitude departments
  • Assists in completing accident investigation and incident reporting
  • Fills in on meetings and events when ski patrol manager cannot attend
  • Develops and trains employees in all skills pertaining to ski patrol and mountain rescue per our operations manual
Emergency Care and Rescue responsibilities, at both supervisory and functional levels:
  • To provide emergency care to those in need of assistance
  • To provide transport from on mountain locations in expert terrain to locations in the base area via rescue sleds and snowmobiles
  • To be proficient in lift evacuations using specialized equipment
  • To be proficient in avalanche rescue
  • To be proficient in cliff and high angle rescue
  • To be proficient in search and rescue including night operations
  • Conducts accident investigations when determined necessary
  • Ensures all patient information is collected and recorded in accordance with standard operating procedures
Mountain Maintenance and Avalanche Mitigation:
  • To ensure proper signage and required rope lines are in place
  • To prioritize and order supplies as necessary within budgetary restrictions
  • To effectively evaluate on mountain conditions and hazards and take appropriate steps to mitigate such hazards
  • To enforce local and state ordinances as well as the skier responsibility code
  • To ensure the mountain receives effective morning and afternoon sweeps
  • To have a basic understanding of avalanches and avalanche terrain
  • To have the ability to participate in mitigating avalanche hazards
  • To have the ability to participate in avalanche rescues
  • To perform avalanche mitigation work at the route leader level at a Class "A" resort
