Job Summary
This position is to develop, coordinate, and deliver training for operations and maintenance technicians employed by Southern Power. Southern Power currently has approximately 200 technicians that maintain and operate our 53 facilities in 14 states with more than 12,490 MW (Megawatt) of solar, wind, storage, and natural gas generating capacity. We have personnel based in Alabama, California, Georgia, Kansas, Nevada, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Texas, and Washington with growing opportunities to place company employees in several more. This role may require up to 50% travel, including air travel. The candidate for this position must be able to drive to remote locations. In some instances, travel to a training site will take more than an 8-hour day and time spent on-site conducting training may involve multiple days.
The primary location for this position is at a Southern Power Generation Facility located preferably in Nevada or California or Oklahoma. The selected individual will be a part of a team responsible for developing and delivering training, coordinating skills assessments, and coordinating training programs in a manner that minimizes impact on plant operations and delivers a maximum benefit for the SPC technicians. This position may utilize computer simulators for gas technology, mechanical and electrical simulators for hands-on learning, and many other teaching tools. This position is expected to deliver in-person and virtual training.
We are looking for a person with the heart to teach and share their knowledge and experience. Electrical and/or mechanical system knowledge and experience is preferred. Experience in solar or wind construction, commissioning, operations, and/or maintenance is a plus.
This position will also serve as a resource for scheduling, delivery, and evaluation of vendor-delivered training. This person will leverage existing Southern Company training resources and facilities when appropriate. External training coordination could include maintaining or establishing relationships with community colleges or technical training schools in strategic locations to expand the Southern Power training programs.
This person should also continuously improve the training program through personal development, industry learning, and investigating alternative forms of training to ensure that SPC personnel are equipped to meet ever-changing technological demands.
Exceptional technical writing, communication, facilitation, presentation, and organization skills are required. Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel and PowerPoint are required. The position requires the ability to safely operate company vehicles, other powered equipment, and tools. To meet travel and training schedules, working more than 8-hours in a day is sometimes required. This position requires the ability to wear personal protective equipment including but not limited to respirators, hard hat, steel or composite toed boots, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, and fall protection. This person must be able to meet physical demands and requirements to access equipment via personnel lifts and platforms, climbing ladders and scaffolding, and utilize fall protection and retrieval gear. The position is safety sensitive.

Pursuant to California law, the reasonable wage expectation for this position is an annual salary of $80,610 to $159,878.
Job Requirements:
This job will be responsible for teaching, assessing, and coordinating training for the technicians at our solar, wind, gas, and/or storage facilities across the United States, focused on the mid-west and west coast regions.
Previous training experience or certification is preferred.
Preferred operational or maintenance experience in gas combined cycle and/or renewable power plant technology, SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems, operations procedures, and in general business theories and practices
Experience as an Operations Technician and/or I&C (Instrumentation and Controls) Technician (as classified in Southern Power) or equivalent positions in a different company preferred
Exceptional technical writing, communication, facilitation, presentation, and organization skills required
Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft TEAMS, and PowerPoint required
Strong oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills required
Demonstrated contract negotiation, preparation and administration skills is a plus
Project management and multi-tasking skills are preferred

Job Responsibilities
Executes all phases of a Systematic Approach to Training including technical assessments for technicians working in each generation technology within SPC (could include gas/oil combined cycles, gas/oil simple cycles, solar, wind, and/or battery storage). Assessments can include classroom, on-the-job training, and simulator environments.
Design, develop, implement, evaluate, and revise training curriculum for Southern Power personnel for both in-person and virtual training experiences. This can include internally created training or external training. This person is responsible for developing relationships with local technical or community schools, etc. to facilitate and enhance employee training and development.
Develops programs and training tracts necessary to close the identified gaps along with communicating program performance and future opportunities to all levels of leadership and technicians.
Coordinate class schedules including availability, enrollment, delivery, attendance, and evaluation of training.
Responsible for supporting and maintaining budget for external training.
Integrates industry best practices materials and lessons learned by experts and OEMs.
Utilizes all forms of instructional technology and strategies such as virtual learning, training simulators, vision, computer-based training (CBT) and dynamic learning activities. Assist as needed with simulator training, upgrades, routine maintenance, and enhancements of simulators.
Develops and maintains training program schedules, training materials, and other program documents
Quantitatively and qualitatively evaluates training curriculum and program to determine if technician and generating facilities needs are met and implemented appropriately
Develops and evaluates training performance indicators to identify any potential gaps in training program performance.
Supervises technicians in all training settings to ensure standards of conduct, expectations, and quality of training are met
Maintains and develops technical knowledge and skills in multiple disciplines.
Evaluates results and develops individualized training if necessary.
Participates in human performance or root cause analyses to help identify potential training impacts, gaps, and/or corrective actions. Implements learning events and lessons learned by incorporating in training whenever possible.
Develops and maintains a good relationship with the customer (the generating facilities) including regular communication and feedback with the site leadership and technicians.
Attends and participates in monthly Operations Review Boards (Solar, Wind, Gas Maintenance and/or Gas Operations) to review upcoming curriculum and results of training. Assists generating facility\xe2\x80\x99s leadership with the maintenance of training records, reports, and assessments.
