Specialized Program Coordinator - Workforce Development Full-time/Non-Exempt
Salary Range: $15.50 to $19.00 hourly, plus benefits

Hours:

School Year - Mon. - Thurs. 11: 30 a.m.-7:30 p.m.
Fridays and School breaks - 8 hours between 11:30 a.m.-11:30 p.m. Shifts vary.

Requirements:

Must be 21 years of age or over due to driving requirements. State background and fingerprinting requirements, drug testing and annual training/certification requirements.

JOB PURPOSE:


Plans and implements a workforce development program, provides the following services to teen participants: 1) improve employability of teen Club members, 2) provide career counseling, job readiness and job placement services, and 3) increase financial knowledge of teens. Serve as a "career mentor" to Club youth, providing individual and small group support to prepare them for employment and career development opportunities. Establish and/or expand relationships with local corporate, educational institutions and community partners that will contribute to the workforce development of Club teens. Work closely with Club and organization leadership to ensure success of the Club's workforce development program.

KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):


Prepare Youth for Success
Create an environment that facilitates youth achievement: Promote and stimulate program participation; Register new members and participate in their Club orientation process; Provide guidance and role modeling to members. Using the Boys & Girls Clubs' philosophy, maintain discipline among youth participants so that programs are carried out safely and efficiently.

Program Development and Implementation
Facilitate small-group workforce development programs/activities with participants ages 13-18 (e.g., CareerLaunch, Junior Staff, Money Matters) Provide individual guidance to teen members about education and career pathways, resume/cover letter writing, mock interviews, personal branding, etc. Plan and coordinate opportunities for a variety of guest speakers to attend the Club and share their education and career pathway experiences Support innovative partnership director with off-site workforce development experiences for participants at a variety of workplaces Plan and coordinate workforce development-related community events (e.g., job fairs, job shadow events, workplace tours) Effectively implement and administer programs, services and activities Monitor and evaluate programs, services and activities to ensure safety of members, quality in programs and appearance of the Club at all times Maintain proper records for program planning and reflection, evaluation, daily attendance, membership registration and program participation weekly or as required Plan, develop, coordinate and implement various programs, in conjunction with teens, using resources from BGCA and outside sources that will be positive experiences for teens Utilize program guidelines appropriate to developmental characteristics of youth of all ages to ensure a rewarding and age appropriate experience for members. Promote selection of career path for participating youth. Encourage youth to participate in leadership opportunities (Keystone, Peer leaders, youth councils, and youth board representatives).

100% of teens are on track to graduate from high school.

: 20% of teens 16 years or older who participate in the workforce development initiative will secure outside employment.

Supervision
Ensure a productive work environment by participating in weekly staff meetings, department meetings and corporate meetings. Recruit, assign, and supervise volunteers, junior staff and/or youth to lead programs and special events as assigned by the Director of Operations or Clubhouse Directors. Participate in periodic assessment of own performance and develop own goals and objectives with Clubhouse Directors and/or Director of Operations. Attend trainings and other developmental/professional growth opportunities as time and resources allow. With assistance from Club leadership, identify local organizations that need skilled employees; help develop a talent pipeline to benefit both Club teens and local employers Coordinate Corporate-wide Junior Staff program and training

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:


May participate in special programs and/or events. Assist with teen recruitment initiative to increase participation in the Club's workforce development program. May oversee special programs and/or events (i.e. Keystone, Torch Club, Teen Specific Programs), and/or participate in the implementation of other club activities as necessary. Will be required to drive a Club van. May handle money and receipts.

RELATIONSHIPS:


Internal:

Maintain close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer) and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel. Build and maintain positive relationships with all Club teens.

External:

Maintain contact with external community groups, businesses, schools, members' parents and others to assist in resolving problems and/or expand program services or experiences for teens.

QUALIFICATIONS:


Bachelor's Degree with courses in education, career development, psychology, or recreation preferred. Special consideration may be given for equivalent experience and personal qualifications in lieu of degree. Minimum 3 years experience with youth or related field, including experience in supervision, administration, and community relations. Experience with teens. Ability to work and think independently. Strong knowledge of the needs of youth ages 13-18 based on physical, cognitive, psychological and social development Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems. Ability to deal with the general public. Ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth. Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment. Commitment and advocacy for relevant youth issues. Willingness to work in multicultural settings. Mandatory Universal Precautions, CPR and First Aid Certifications. Valid State Driver's License with little or no violations. Pass pre employment and random drug testing. Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills Organized and able to manage details efficiently and effectively Computer proficient, including MS Word and Excel Flexibility, patience, tolerance and willingness to learn new related skills

WORKPLACE ENVIRONMENT


Physical Demands
High energy level required, must be comfortable performing multi-faceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities. Must possess superior interpersonal abilities; ability to get along with diverse personalities, at all times displaying tact, maturity, flexibility, and professionalism. Good reasoning abilities and sound judgment are also required. The job requires the ability to stand for extended periods, kneel, reach, bend, and lift objects weighing in excess of 50 lbs. Will be expected to clean and maintain equipment and facility, and may move throughout the program spaces with children and while supervising children. May come in contact with children who are ill and/or contagious, and must take precautions to ensure the health and safety of all children, parents, staff and themselves.
Environmental Conditions
Will be working in a busy and occasionally noisy environment. There may be a number of activities and situations happening at once, and the program coordinator will have to supervise all children at all times.
Sensory Demands
May experience smells associated with toileting and children who are ill. There may be times that the environment is noisy and busy.
Mental Demands
Caring for children can be stressful. Must ensure that children are supervised at all times, and that children are involved in safe and appropriate activities. There may be a number of situations happening at once, and the program coordinator must be prepared to handle accidents and emergencies at any time.
