REQUIREMENTS AND PREFERENCES

The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Senior Manager, Public Relations & Communications.

General Description
Performs complex, professional services and supervisory work of dynamic programs and partnership management at the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention and Visitors Bureau (GFLCVB).
Works under administrative supervision, developing and implementing programs within organizational policies and reports major activities to executive level administrators through conferences and reports. The Sr. Manager PR & Communications drives the development and delivery of internal and external communications plans and programming in support of the organization. This role also oversees the implementation and execution of resident, consumer, and trade-facing public relations and social media to increase tourist visitation and spending in Broward County, Florida.

Responsibilities include:

  • Manage the production of communications that achieve organizational goals. This includes, but is not limited to, crafting responses to inbound requests, managing crisis communications, and actively seeking new opportunities for positive media coverage
  • Manage public perception of our company, which incorporates developing messaging and communication strategies
  • Always preserve the integrity and perception of our brand
  • Identify great storytelling opportunities for the company and develop communication strategies to tell those stories
  • Leverage data, consumer insights, and third-party market intelligence to promote the destination
  • Assist in the creation of photo, video, audio, and editorial/print content
  • Develop, prepare, and manage all communications material
  • Build relationships and conduct outreach on behalf of the company across various media verticals - print, broadcast, digital, and other industry-specific outlets
  • Craft speeches and talking points, providing guidance to staff members regarding public speaking and messaging
  • Elevate and coordinate thought leadership programs and content aligned with brand positioning and demand generation strategy
  • Partner with internal subject matter experts from to create content across industry events, digital media, and owned and earned media
  • Act as an advisor to senior leaders on executive communications and preparation for internal and external forums
  • Assemble and oversee a diversely skilled communications team in the areas of media relations, social media and content development
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Requires a Bachelor\'s degree from an accredited college or university.

Requires four (4) years marketing, journalism, business, communications or closely related experience.

Special Certifications and Licenses Required
None.

Preferences - Experience with image/media editing software
- Recent, 4 years of communications experience at a destination or corporation, preferred but not required
- Experience in communications agency management or client services, preferred but not required
- Experience with Simpleview or similar CRM database
- Experience working at or with an advertising agency or PR firm of record.
- Proficient in use of media measurement tools

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.

Coordinates and collaborates with industry partners and stakeholders to facilitate cooperative advertising and other programs and maintains knowledge of current events and issues across the organization.

Manages group client services including, but not limited to, event planning, transportation, housing, pre-promotes, and site visits.

Coordinates and develops strategic and/or business planning in conjunction with other relevant departments.

Manages advertising for consumer and trade facing advertising, video content, media, and public relations; provides creative direction through marketing initiatives.

Manages digital content marketing, maintains databases, updates and/or develops web properties; operates online marketing efforts, provides direction and approval to vendors on creative, printing and distribution; approves website development.

Acts as Contract Administrator for specific contracts; provides direction and approval to third party vendors, including public relations and marketing agencies.

Manages or assists in the management of GFLCVB advisory boards.

Performs related work as required.
