The Staff Scientist position provides support to the Bennartz Laboratory within the Earth & Environmental Sciences Department. In this role the Scientist will supervise and perform research and contribute to the technical oversight of the laboratory. The individual will plan and conduct research for their own and plan the team\'s work to meet experimental and publication deadlines. Administratively, the Scientist will work directly or in conjunction with the Principal Investigator (PI) to help ensure success in all aspects of remote sensing research in the laboratory. The individual will work closely with graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and research assistants in a dynamic laboratory environment. The ability to function independently, as well as part of a team, is critical.
The Bennartz Research Laboratory develops novel retrieval algorithms for atmospheric parameters in the context of various current and future NASA earth observation missions including the Polarized Sub-millimeter Ice-cloud Radiometer (PolSIR) and the Time-Resolved Observations of Precipitation structure and storm Intensity with a Constellation of Smallsats (TROPICS) mission. This position focuses on algorithm development and validation in the context of these missions.
The work unit is made up of faculty, research staff, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students.
