After 1st Year: $23.0872 ($48,021)
After 2nd Year: $ 23.7139 ($49,325)
After 3rd Year: $24.4066 ($50,766)
After 4th Year: $25.0980 ($52,204)
After 5th Year: $25.8570 ($53,783)
After 6th Year: $26.6479 ($55,428)
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Associates degree in Environmental Studies, Communications, Marketing or related field.

-OR-

Thirty (30) semester hours AND one (1) year experience in one of the following roles: working in an environmentally related field, water testing, emergency management responder, PR or communications, training development and presentation.

-OR-

Three (3) years experience in one of the following roles: working in an environmentally related field, water testing, emergency management responder, PR or communications, training development and presentation.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid Michigan driver\xe2\x80\x99s license
Willing to work outdoors in all kinds of weather and on uneven terrain
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Performs a variety of professional duties organizing, planning, and implementing environmental programs; engages in outreach; conducts laboratory and field tests evaluating existing facilities; work is evaluated by an engineer; works under the general direction of the Civil Engineer; performs related duties as assigned.
STATEMENT OF TASKS:

  • Ensures the County and member communities comply with U.S. EPA National Pollutant
  • Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) phase II regulations;
  • Investigates complaints related to illicit discharge, drainage and related problems;
  • Monitors various water quality programs and mapping of drain related features;
  • Evaluates and makes reports on existing conditions of construction projects and related facilities;
  • Performs laboratory tests of construction materials;
  • Builds awareness of and promotes environmental education programs and facilities;
  • Identifies new and strengthens existing relationships with local schools, community groups, businesses, and individuals;
  • Identifies and coordinates community outreach activities;
  • Prepares necessary reports and records, including data collection and interpretation, and evaluation;
  • Coordinates the IDEP reporting;
  • Assists in monitoring the budget;
  • Assists with identifying funding sources and grant development;
  • Assists with the day-to-day implementation of the social media plan;
  • Serves as a liaison on select committees, as assigned;
  • Work is performed under supervision; performs related work as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of EPA and NPDES regulations;
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, and objectives in developing and implementinvolunteer programs;
  • Knowledge of and the ability to use social media;
  • Knowledge of budgeting;
  • Ability to perform complex technical computations, estimates and tests and to compile simple engineering data statistics;
  • Ability to conduct lectures, discussions, and present programs;
  • Ability to develop, actively promote and maintain cooperative working relationships with
  • schools, community groups, the general public, and Commission employees;
  • Ability to deal with complaints from the public in a courteous and efficient manner;
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
  • Ability to work in the field;
  • Familiarity with Windows-based computers and applications;
  • Ability to attend work regularly and work under stressful conditions;
  • Ability to provide direction to employees and volunteers;
  • Ability to work independently, collaboratively and respectfully in a complex, multicultural work environment that values diversity, equality and inclusion.
