Description
Employees in this class perform a variety of semi-skilled and unskilled manual labor tasks in the maintenance, and repair of streets. Work may involve asphalt patching; cleaning storm drains, catch basins, leaves and yard debris; flagging traffic; landscape duties such as trimming, weed eating and planting; and assisting in minor repair and maintenance of equipment and vehicles. Work may involve driving a small non CDL trucks. Employees may work as back up in water and sewer and sanitation occasionally performing traffic control, digging, and other manual and semi-skilled tasks occasionally as needed for coverage. Employees are subject to hazards in streets and utilities maintenance work including working in both inside and outside environments, in extreme hot and cold weather, and exposure to various hazards such as noise, dusts, fumes, mists, oils, working around moving mechanical parts, vibrations, tight quarters, and narrow passage ways. Work around raw sewage is also subject to the final standards of OSHA on blood borne pathogens. Work is performed under continuous supervision of a crew leader or equipment operator in accordance with specific instructions and within defined procedures. Work is reviewed while in progress and upon completion for adherence to instructions and established standards.
