POSITION SUMMARYCandidates hired into this position will be trained to become a Licensed Respiratory Therapist upon completion of academic coursework, testing, and licensure in the State of North Dakota.If hired, student will enroll in Northland Community and Technical Collegexe2x80x99s Respiratory Therapy program in East Grand Forks, MN, where they will attend courses 1 weekend per month (2-3 days) for 2 years. Trinity Health is offering an agreement providing tuition, fees, books, once per month travel cost to Grand Forks for school. In return employee agrees to continued employment at Trinity Health for a minimum of 20 hours per week. Employment may consist of some hours in the Respiratory Therapy department as a Respiratory Therapy Student. Students must maintain satisfactory academic progress in approved Respiratory Therapy curriculum and must become a full-time Respiratory Therapist with Trinity Health for a period of 3 years upon completion of the 2-year Respiratory Therapist program.A Student Respiratory Therapist develops competency in providing Respiratory Therapy to patients while providing departmental support. Student Respiratory Therapist will be trained to perform EKGs.Standard Respiratory Care shifts are 0630 to 19:00 or 18:30 to 07:00. Other shifts may be assigned by Manager of Respiratory Care. Students must be willing to work full-time and work the shifts available in Respiratory Therapy upon completion of the program.All Respiratory Care patient care activities must be under the direct supervision of a licensed Respiratory Therapist. Non-patient care activities may be completed independently once documented service competency is established xe2x80x93 cleaning, stocking, etc. EKGs may be completed independently once service competency has been established consistent with EKG tech role as determined by the Manager of Respiratory Care.Student academic clinical hours are done where possible at Trinity Health; exceptions as negotiated between Manager of Respiratory Care and academic program. Student clinical hours are separate from and in addition to required minimum work hours Student clinical hours are part of the educational program and are not paid hours by Trinity Health.Student Respiratory Therapist will have primary responsibility for non-patient activities in the Respiratory Care department such as cleaning equipment, stocking, etc. as per Manager of Respiratory Care. Once these are done, may observe and assist assigned preceptor in patient care.Though time on duty may be available for studying, after all other duties are completed, the Student Respiratory Therapist should expect to complete most or all studying and classes outside of work hours.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTSLicenses and Certifications RequiredBasic Life Support (CPR) required within 30 days of hire.Educational RequirementsAdmission into approved Respiratory Therapist program at Northland Community College in Grand Forks as designated by Trinity Health (this will require a HS diploma/GED for admission)Must maintain satisfactory academic progress defined as letter grade of C or better in approved Respiratory Therapy curriculumExperience RequirementsRequires a minimum of one year of satisfactory service at Trinity Health.Must work a minimum of 20 hours per week at Trinity Health, a minimum of 10 hours per pay period in Respiratory Care.
