Founded in 2005, Continental Finance Company ("CFC") is dedicated to being the leading marketer and servicer of credit cards for consumers with fair credit or limited credit history. Join our Legal Department in the role of a Summer Law Clerk.
We are looking for a motivated first year law student interested in gaining experience in consumer finance and corporate law. The successful candidate will work with the members of the Legal Department with various legal tasks all under the supervision of experienced lawyers.
Essential Functions:
Research, draft, and review legal documents including correspondence with legal counsel, subpoenas, and complaint responses.
Assist with thorough investigations into litigation matters, including performing legal research and analysis and coordinating reviews with the Legal team to ensure that litigation case goals are achieved.
Research applicable federal and state laws related to the collection and servicing of consumer loan accounts.
Review and monitor new and updated consumer regulations and communicate relevant changes to the Legal Department in a digestible format for distribution to stakeholders.
Coordinate reviews with members of the Legal team to ensure that litigation case and contract management timelines are achieved, including renewals, by leveraging reporting to track and manage litigation and contracts within the litigation and contract management databases.
Manage and execute projects and other deliverables as assigned by the Legal team.
Other duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate will have the following:
Currently enrolled in a Juris Doctor (JD) Program.
Completed at least one year of law school.
Strong research, writing, and verbal communication skills.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Ability to be detail-oriented, responsive, and flexible.
Ability to maintain confidentiality in a professional manner.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
