Under general supervision and guidance of the Ice Arena Manager, the Ice Arena Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the facility and staff. The Supervisor performs a variety of public service and custodial duties that provide participants with a safe and enjoyable skating environment.RELATIONSHIPS:
Reports to: Recreation SupervisorWorks with seasonal employees on a regular basis and communicates with other City employees, facility user groups, customers and the general public.Supervises: Directly supervises Facility Assistants and Facility AttendantsEssential DutiesESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Opens, closes or works middle of the day shifts for the facility and performs shift-specific functions and inspections of the facility as outlined in Supervisor\'s log.
  • Practices proper cash handling procedures and cash register operation. Maintains an accurate cash drawer and petty cash balance.
  • Answers telephone inquiries and responds to messages in a courteous and timely manner.
  • Practices good customer service when interacting with others.
  • Checks compressors and other mechanical systems as required
  • Operates the ice resurfacer (Zamboni) to prepare the ice sheet, while monitoring ice thickness and quality.
  • Monitors all on and off-ice activities throughout the facility.
  • Places goals on ice and removes goals from ice as needed.
  • Checks out equipment and keys.
  • Monitors patron behavior. Provides diligent and consistent rule enforcement.
  • Provides direction and supervises Facility Assistants.
  • Monitors restrooms, locker rooms, warming room, seating areas, and office for cleanliness. Cleans, sweeps, mops, empties garbage and stocks supplies as needed.
  • Provides basic first aid and appropriate emergency response care.
  • Completes necessary and required shift paperwork and fills in daily logs as required
  • Reports in writing to Arena Manager accident reports, problem reports, maintenance requests or other issues.
  • Attends staff trainings as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Follows all safety regulations, policies, and procedures; reports all unsafe conditions and acts to supervisor; reports all accidents to the supervisor immediately whenever possible; follows recognized safe work practices.
  • All employees may be assigned by the City Manager or their designee to perform duties and assume responsibilities that are outside the scope of their work duties when the City Manager has declared a City disaster or the City Emergency Operations Center has been initiated.
Minimum Position Requirements/QualificationsMINIMUM EDUCATION AND PRIOR EXPERIENCE
The requirements listed below are necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Current Child and Adult CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications or willing/able to obtain.

  • Ability follow City/Division/Ice Arena policies, work independently and make sound decisions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with city employees, arena user groups, patrons and the general public.

  • Ability to work with the public in a fair and consistent manner, maintaining objectivity and excluding personal bias while performing job duties.
  • Ability to make decisions according to applicable laws, regulations, established procedures, and the directives of the City Manager and City Council.
  • Ability to learn and apply new technology and computerized systems/building systems in order to detect and diagnose operational problems and maintenance needs.
  • Ability to comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures, and report all unsafe activities or conditions to supervisor.
  • Ability to maintain a valid, state-issued driver\'s license.

Supplemental InformationEQUIPMENT, INSTRUMENTS, AND MACHINES:
Equipment used in this position includes but is not limited to: Ice Resurfacer, Skate Sharpener, Compressor System and a Computer with POS operations.WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL FACTORS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in colder temperatures typical of an Ice Arena, along with changing humidity levels. This position occasionally walks, stands, stoops, kneels, crouches, crawls, and exerts up to 50 pounds of force by lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling objects. The employee is frequently required to see/observe, talk/speak, and listen/hear; use their hands to finger, handle, feel, or operate objects and equipment; repetitive arm, wrist, hand, and eye movements are included. There is frequent twisting, reaching, wrist turning, and grasping. The employee may be required to climb or balance.Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various pieces of equipment. Employee is required to use cognitive ability to reason, analyze, and verbalize thoughts and ideas. Requires the ability to recognize and identify similarities or differences between characteristics of colors, shapes, and sounds associated with job-related objects, materials or tasks.The employee may, on occasion, be exposed to outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and extreme cold. The employee may work near moving mechanical parts in precarious places; and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic, or caustic chemicals, and vibration. The working conditions in the office environment are comfortable. The noise level in the office environment is generally quiet to moderately noisy. This individual will be required to drive and operate an ice resurfacer (Zamboni).This position will work 4-20 hours per week pending employee availability and facility needs.
