Kamehameha Schools is seeking two (2) Teachers at Large to support our Middle School at our Kap\xc4\x81lama campus. This is a full-time regular position for the 2024-2025 school year with full-time employee benefits.

Job Summary

The Teacher at Large is a regular, full time faculty member who serves primarily in their assigned school but could be assigned anywhere from K-12 as the need arises. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to: substitute teaching (daily), covering teacher supervision duties, supporting students by providing one-on-one and small group tutoring, small group intervention and student support, assisting other teachers with instruction, assessments, grading and other classroom responsibilities, participating in collaborative curriculum development, grade-level activities, and school-wide functions, events, and trips, participating in school-based and campus-wide staff professional development activities, and other duties as assigned.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Serve as a daily substitute teacher at assigned school (Elementary, Middle, or High) but, depending on the areas of highest need, could serve throughout the campus from grades K-12
  • During times where there is no substitute assignment, responsibilities include but are not limited to:
    • Teacher supervision duties;
    • Supporting students by providing one-on-one and small group tutoring;
    • Small group intervention and student support;
    • Assisting other teachers with instruction, assessments, grading and other classroom responsibilities;
    • Participating in collaborative curriculum development, grade-level activities, and school-wide functions, events, and trips;
    • Participating in school-based and campus-wide staff professional development activities; and
    • Other duties as assigned

  • Collaborating effectively with a variety of stakeholder groups within the organization and with external partners to increase student performance and contribute to advancing the teaching and learning craft;
  • Looking beyond the walls of their classroom and strive for/demonstrate Global Competence and how their work will expand the impact of students\xe2\x80\x99 work to their families, and local and global communities;
  • Deeply investing in the Learners\xe2\x80\x99 Well-Being and health, safety, physical, socially, and emotionally. Teachers must recognize the relationship between social-emotional learning and academic performance and aspire toward developing and teaching the \xe2\x80\x9cwhole child,\xe2\x80\x9d
  • Designing and facilitating differentiated and personalized learning goals and activities that follow a coherent sequence, are aligned to instructional goals, and engage students in high-level cognitive activity.

Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications - An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the requirements listed.
  • Bachelor\'s Degree in Education or related field.
  • Knowledge of instructional methods appropriate for students at the respective grade level.
  • Desire and ability to work with students at the specified age level with diverse backgrounds and levels of ability toward accomplishing their educational goals.
  • Ability to organize tasks and manage time to meet many and varied deadlines; manage small and large groups of students in a classroom environment; communicate effectively with students, parents, school administrators and other staff, including the ability to discuss topics which may be sensitive.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Master\xe2\x80\x99s Degree in Education or related field.
  • Teaching credentials appropriate for the level of students being taught.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current age-appropriate instructional strategies.
  • Recent teaching experience, coursework, or other activity in primary area(s) on instruction.
  • Previous experience teaching the age levels and subject areas of the specific teaching position.
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to Hawaiian culture.


Physical Requirements
  • Frequently sits, perform desk-based computer tasks and grasp light or fine manipulation, talk or hear.
  • Occasionally stand and/or walk, write by hand, and lift and/or carry, push and/or pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
  • Rarely twist, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crawl, climb, reach or work above shoulder, or grasp forcefully.


Working Conditions
  • This position may involve traveling to various locations, including neighbor islands to conduct business.
  • Work is conducted in an office/school environment and may require work to be conducted in non-standard workplaces.
  • Work is typically conducted Monday through Friday at normal business hours, but evening and weekend hours are often required to meet goals and objectives.
