Please note that this position is available for one year only. Hired candidates will be displaced or non-renewed from the position for the following school year, however, displaced teachers remain district employees and will be guaranteed a position in SY24-25.
Providence Public Schools District (PPSD) seeks an exceptional ELEMENTARY SPECIAL EDUCATION EXCEPTIONAL CHILD SERVICES (ECS) AND ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (ESL) TEACHER who is highly qualified and skillful to join our community of teachers, students and stakeholders. We serve approximately 22,000 students at 37 elementary, middle, and high schools. Approximately 55% of students come from homes where English is not the primary language spoken. REPORTS TO: Principal
Under direction of the school principal and/or appropriate special education administrator, the special educator will instruct functional daily living skills and coordinate services for students with moderate to severe language, learning, behavioral and/or social skills deficient consistent with their Individual Educational Programs (IEP) ECS special education teacher will carry the responsibility of educating children with disabilities who are diagnosed with a number of physical, mental and emotional disabilities.
The ECS teacher will work with legally required federal paperwork called an IEP, or Individualized Educational Plan, that outlines the necessary supports, accommodations and goals for an individual child. These goals can encompass both academic and behavioral concerns.
The ECS special education teacher is required to complete the necessary transition assessments, services and supports for the children in their classrooms.
The ECS teacher will also be required to complete all of the necessary reporting and implementation for the R.I. Alternate Assessment. The teacher also directs meetings with parents and staff regarding the planning and making of necessary adjustments throughout the year. In the classroom, the teacher will work with children who can vary from moderate to severe and profound disabilities, using specialized techniques to help them reach their goals. The teacher will also be able to provide and meet the students\' personal care and functional goals and objectives.

EDUCATION TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor\'s degree in applicable field of education from an accredited college or university. Master\'s degree preferred.
