Job Summary:
The Team Dietitian's primary role is to provide comprehensive nutrition solutions for the Club's players aiming to optimize their performance. The Dietitian provides continuous support to optimize players' performance on the field and recovery off the field. The position develops and offers proactive nutrition strategies to minimize training/practice/game time lost due to injury/illness.
Primary Job Duties:
The Team Dietitian will have the daily responsibilities including, without limitation, to the following:
Conduct in-depth assessments of athletes' dietary needs, performance objectives, body composition, energy balance, and health/injury history for performance and health optimization.
Offer personalized nutrition plans for training, competition, recovery, injury management, and travel to match training demands and health goals, adjusting based on individual progress, preferences, and evolving goals.
Communicates personalized nutrition plans and needs with Director of Football Performance, Sports Science personnel and VP, Performance Kitchen & Culinary Options to ensure proper execution.
Proactive approach, guidance, presence, and follow-through to ensure athletes comply with recommended nutrition plans.
Recommend appropriate supplementation and support athletes in achieving and maintaining optimal body mass, fat percentage, bone density, and muscle mass for football performance within NFL policies and in concert with Athletic Training staff and Director of Football Performance.
Develop, implement, and manage hydration protocols.
Assist Department VP and Executive Chef in menu development with nutritionally tailored recommendations to enhance athletic performance and health.
Design personalized meal and snack plans addressing specific needs such as food allergies, bone health, gastrointestinal issues, and iron deficiencies.
Conduct educational sessions on the principles of nutrition and the role of culinary choices in optimizing performance.
Evaluate and ensure nutritional supplements are compliant with the NFL and NFLPA supplement program.
Coordinate ordering, stock management, and budgeting for supplements.
Counsel athletes on nutrition for recovery from illness or injury while collaborating on nutritional care within multidisciplinary sports medical and sports science teams.
Maintain electronic records of nutritional assessments and counseling, evaluate effectiveness using the Nutrition Care Process.
Develop player educational materials, such as grocery store tours and cooking classes.
Establish budget outline for Player Performance nutritional products and services throughout the year.
Stay current with sports performance and nutrition trends through ongoing professional development.
Collaborate with Sports Performance and Sport Science related to weekly weights, hydration status, macronutrient composition during meal services, schedules and interprets DEXA body composition data and trends.
Partners with the Performance Kitchen Staff to develop, prepare, and distribute pre, mid, and post-practice fueling stations
Participate in the planning of training camp, game day, extended stay, and international meal service operations.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements
Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Nutrition required, Master's degree in exercise physiology or nutrition preferred
Experience: Proven Experience in sports/performance nutrition involving professional players or collegiate athletics
Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credential through Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics required.
Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD) required.
Completion of a didactic program in dietetics and supervised practice program approved by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) of the American Dietetic Association.
Experience with athlete performance nutrition testing and appropriate protocols including but not limited to DXA, MX3, height & body weight measurements and blood panel testing.
Experience utilizing athlete management and sports science analysis software.
Knowledge of rules and regulations of athletic governing bodies: e.g., NFL, USADA, WADA, regarding banned drugs and restricted substances.
Comprehensive knowledge and application of nutrition, including interviewing and education techniques, especially as it pertains to Sports and Football performance.
A consistent track record of outstanding communication skills with coaches, athletes, other staff, and administrators, with the ability to work effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
Demonstrated leadership capabilities and a team player and a proven ability to work effectively as part of the Health & Performance Team.
Availability for a high volume of non-traditional work hours, including evenings, weekends, and travel.
Current with all required certifications including a ServSafe Manager Certifications.
Respectfully handles confidential information in compliance with HIPAA guidelines and maintains a professional attitude around a professional team.
Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays; hours may vary depending on business needs.
Must complete all pre-employment forms and successfully pass a background check.
