Maintain, inspect, and repair cable, data, telephone lines, and networking systems
Install, test, and maintain uninterrupted power supplies (UPS) and communication equipment.
Test, repair, and replace network equipment and devices.
Collaborate with divisions within University of Florida Information Technology and outside vendors to keep housing telecommunication systems and networks functional.
Install, repair, test, and maintain low voltage copper communication systems, fiber optic communications systems, and television cable systems
Design, install, test, and maintain community antenna televisions (CATV) and closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems, voice and data communication.
Maintain, inspect, and repair life safety and fire systems
Install, maintain, and perform functional testing and inspections of life safety systems, including, but not limited to testing smoke detectors, pull stations, bells, fire alarm control panels, annunciation panels, water flow and tamper switches, and related equipment.
Perform annual inspections; Develop schedule for inspection and coordinate with stakeholders as necessary
Install, maintain, and repair ADA devices such as door openers, bed shakers, bang bars, and visual notifications
Communicate with University Police Department (UFPD), who is the alarm monitoring agent
Remain up to date on current federal and state fire alarm safety codes
Maintain, Inspect, and repair electronic access control systems
Install, test, and maintain electronic lock and security systems including but not limited to electronic door strikes, electronic door magnets, readers, push to exit buttons, and infrared motion detectors.
Install, test, and maintain ADA accessible electronic door hardware
Order and maintain inventory control of electronic and hardware components
Repair equipment and return to active inventory
Responsible for following proper procurement and purchasing procedures within university, and departmental guidelines
Provide administrative support for area
Evaluate plans, schematics, specifications, and upgrades of new and existing systems in support of projects
Retrieve work orders, close out work orders, record system data testing, and record detailed notes of work completed.
Assist with the preparation of annual budget for area
Train and collaborate with other technicians on systems, practices, departmental and university standards
Coordinate and work with vendors, contractors, and departmental stakeholders responding to fire alarms and fire alarm system associated equipment
Develop reports, handle special projects, tasks, and other duties as assigned
Complete underground cable locates
Serve in an on-call duty rotation, providing coverage for the area including night, weekend, and holidays responding to calls for assistance and emergency situations
Expected Salary:
$22.00 - $24.00 per hour Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent and four years of relevant experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. Preferred Qualifications:
EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:
BICSI Installer 1 and 2, or BICSI Technician
Five years of fire alarm, access control, and/or telecommunication experience
Working knowledge of low voltage and telecommunications industry practices and procedures
Working knowledge of NFPA
Working knowledge of the electrical trade
SKILLS:
Skilled in installation of electrical conduit, wire, cable, fiber optic, and electrical/electronic devices
Demonstrated proficiency with computers and basic software applications
Demonstrated communication skills (verbal and written)
Demonstrated customer service skills
Demonstrated interpersonal skills
ABILITIES:
Ability to perform types of physical exertion necessary for task completion
