Responsibilities:
Test circuits and components of malfunctioning telecommunications equipment to isolate sources of malfunctions, utilizing different types of hand tools.
Test repaired, newly installed, or updated equipment to ensure that it functions properly and conforms to specifications, using test equipment and observation.
Repair or replace faulty equipment such as defective and damaged telephones, wires, switching system components, and associated equipment.
Remove and remake connections to change circuit layouts, following engineering plans, work orders or diagrams.
Demonstrate equipment to customers and explain how it is to be used, and respond to any inquiries or complaints.
Analyze test readings, computer printouts, and trouble reports to determine equipment repair needs and required repair methods.
Adjust or modify equipment to enhance equipment performance or to respond to customer requests.
Run appropriate power, ground, or coaxial cables.
Install all necessary transmission equipment components, including antennas or antenna mounts, surge arrestors, transmission lines, connectors, or TMAs.
Conducts self safely at all times, ensures a safe area for others, and completes required training, assessments and reports timely.
Skills Required:
Proficiency in specific telecommunication systems such as VOIP, telephony, and unified communications
Knowledge and understanding of Telephony & Electronics Theory
Knowledge and understanding of Cable installation, termination, and testing
Knowledge and ability of ISP & OSP cable installation (fiber, copper and coax)
Knowledge and understanding of Radio Frequency (two-way)
Knowledge and ability of Microwave Communication
Knowledge and ability of Fiber Optics
Knowledge and ability of Satellite Communication
Knowledge and understanding of Telecommunication Power Systems
Knowledge and understanding of Basic Construction & Fabrication
Knowledge and understanding of Culture of Safety & PPE
Knowledge and understanding of Basic Computer skills

Education and Experience Required:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Post-secondary education, documented electronics education preferred.
At least 5 years verifiable experience in telecommunication combinations of skills
Successful candidates must:
Possess active valid Driver's License
Pass a pre-employment DOT drug & alcohol screening with on-going program participation.
Pass fitness testing.
Pass background screening.
Be able to fulfil rotational assignments by travel within state of Alaska approx.75% of the year
Possess trade hand tools
