Job Description
About the Position
Performs intermediate technical work on an assigned shift dispatching law enforcement, fire, emergency medical service and non-emergency calls for service, and related work as apparent or assigned. This position requires rotating shift work including nights, weekends, and holidays. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Telecommunicator Shift Supervisor.
Job Duties
- Receives and responds to emergency and non-emergency calls utilizing Emergency Dispatch protocols, including Medical Dispatch..
- Operates radios, telephone, switchboard, alarm systems, recording devices and computer terminals.
- Dispatches emergency equipment and personnel where and when needed.
- Receives and transmits messages by radio and maintains radio log.
- Maintains log of police calls during shift; keeps necessary records on all calls.
General knowledge of the methods of operating the communication system; general knowledge of radio and teletype procedures; general knowledge of the geography of the County and location of important buildings; ability to type at a reasonable rate of speed; ability to speak distinctly; ability to deal courteously with the public under stressful conditions; skill in the operation of radio, telecommunications, computer terminal, data entry and general office equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, associates and the general public.
Education, Experience and Supplemental Information
High school diploma or GED.
Special Requirements:
Obtain DCI (Division Criminal Information), Sheriff\'s Training and Standards Certification Basic Telecommunicator and the National Emergency Medical Dispatching Certification, and CPR certification within one year of hire.
Valid driver\'s license in the State of North Carolina.
Rotating shift work including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Must be a US citizen.
Must be able to type a minimum of 35 words per minute.
Preliminary skills screening test required.
Background investigation, physical exam and drug screen required.
