This position supports the Air Force Research Laboratory Munitions Directorate, Science and Technology Branch with the Multi-Agent Teaming Section (AFRL/RWTAM) and the Alternative Navigation section in their efforts to pioneer research in alternative navigation combined with networked cooperative autonomy swarming behaviors of precision-guided air-to-air and air-to-ground munitions, with decreased susceptibility to counter measures in GPS-denied or contested environments, improved weather performance, enhanced utility, and increased affordability. This position requires a highly motivated individual with Systems Engineering experience to include the below essential duties:The selected candidate will be primarily part of an Multi-Agent Teaming team utilizing highly technical and developmental payloads on-board an Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) to demonstrate unmanned aircraft autonomy behaviors in GPS-denied or contested environments (e.g., Magnetic, Vision, Radio Frequency, etc.) for single or multi-UAV system concepts. The qualified candidate shall assist in the software integration of hardware components including magnetometers, barometers, inertial measurement units (IMUs), optical cameras, microcontrollers, autopilots, embedded computers, data links, and GPS receivers. The selected candidate will be responsible for handling the integration of varying navigation algorithms including autonomous collaborative behaviors, and processing flight data either during live flight or post flight. This pipeline will also function as modular playback (post flight) allowing for enhanced flight analysis and parameter tuning of specific algorithm components of the payload. This work will be developed and tested in real time simulations and on live-flight surrogate unmanned aircraft vehicles over Eglin AFB\'s test ranges.Additionally, the selected candidate must have experience in data-link architectures and use cases for multi-vehicle operations, understanding of RF theory, autopilot control understanding, embedded systems with Linux OS, and strengths in hardware design and electrical systems. The candidate will work collaboratively in different development groups understanding the goals and requirements for the Navigation Section and the multi-agent team section as the groups begin combining their algorithms to function as a whole system. The selected candidate will be required to understand autonomous air vehicle development in terms of software development with python and C++, and system design with computer aided design (CAD) knowledge and electrical schematic design, so as to grasp how the systems will utilize both advanced navigation estimation filters and autonomous behaviors during flight. However, motivation and dedication to project tasks in an independent environment are also necessary. Knowledge of various software and code development sources must be present. The candidate should have experience in one or more of the following programming languages: C/C++, python, Java, Kotlin, Docker Containers, Matlab, and general Linux syntax.
