Position Description:

Summary

Drives gasoline or diesel powered tractor trailer combination to transport and deliver products, or materials in liquid, loose, or packaged form by performing the following duties.

Please note that this job requires physical labor including (see also Physical Demands, page 4)

CONSISTENT TWISTING AND TURNING OF THE BODY FROM WAIST UP, BENDING DOWN, SQUATTING, SITTING FOR EXTENDED PERIODS OF TIME, WORKING WITH YOUR HANDS AND ARMS ABOVE YOUR HEAD, CLIMBING IN AND OUT OF TRUCKS USING PROPER MOUNT AND DISMOUNT TECHNIQUES, CLIMBING IN AND OUT OF BEDS AND TRAILERS, INCLIMATE WEATHER AND TEMPERATURES, USE OF SHOVEL, BROOM, SCRAPER, AND DEALING WITH VARIOUS TYPES OF MATERIALS (DIRT, ASPHALT, GRAVEL, SAND, CEMENT, CKD & FLYASH).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned)

Specific duties vary by division driver is employed with; the following duties may or may not be required at every location.

Drives truck to destination.

Performs daily and weekly cleanliness tasks, including but not limited to:

Inside Truck & Pickup Cabs

Empty trash bags daily (trash bags kept in truck & pickup cabs at all times).

Clean floor mats daily.

Wash windows daily (keep spray bottle and rags in truck).

Empty ashtray daily.

Dust dash, seats, floor and instrument panel daily.

Organize glove box and insure that required documents are in glove box weekly.

Note maintenance items such as threadbare seat covers etc. that adversely affect appearance of cab interior and report to shop on daily inspection form for correction.

Exterior Trucks & Pickups

Remove trash and organize pickup beds and toolboxes daily.

Clean trailer apron and tailgate seal daily to prevent build up of material.

*Wash exterior of cabs, trailers, tanks, pickup beds, etc. weekly (more often if needed).

*Wash undercarriage of trucks / trailers weekly (more often if needed).

Spray cabs, trailers and pickup beds with buildup prevention spray weekly after washing exterior.

Wax exterior of cabs and pickup beds every 3 months (more often if needed).

***Trucks used for handling fly ash will perform items 3 and 4 listed above daily***

***Note maintenance items such as worn decals, bad paint, etc. that adversely affect appearance of exterior and report to shop on daily inspection form for correction***

Heavy Equipment (when in use)

Remove all trash daily.

Remove asphaltic concrete buildup on equipment daily.

Wash windows daily (if applicable, keep spray bottle and rags in cab).

*Wash dash, seats, floor and instrument panel weekly (if location permits).

*Wash exterior and undercarriage weekly (if location permits).

Asphalt Distributor Truck \xe2\x80\x93 spray down tank and distributor apparatus with diesel/buildup prevention solution before and after every use and wash daily.

***Equipment used for handling fly ash will perform items 4 and 5 listed above daily.***

***Note maintenance items such as worn decals, bad paint, threadbare seats, etc. that adversely affect appearance of equipment and report to shop to schedule for correction***

Performs daily and weekly routine maintenance tasks, including but not limited to:

Pickups and Light Trucks

Check engine oil level - daily.

Check engine coolant level - daily.

Check power steering fluid level - daily.

Check brake fluid level - daily.

Check tire condition - daily.

Check automatic transmission fluid level with transmission in drive while 2nd person is holding the brake \xe2\x80\x93 weekly.

Check battery water level \xe2\x80\x93 weekly.

Trucks and Heavy Equipment

Check engine oil level - daily.

Check engine coolant level - daily.

Check power steering fluid level - daily.

Check brake fluid level - daily.

Check tire condition - daily.

Check automatic transmission fluid level \xe2\x80\x93 daily.

Check hydraulic fluid level \xe2\x80\x93 daily.

Grease - weekly

Check battery water level \xe2\x80\x93 weekly.

Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspection of truck and trailer and complete \xe2\x80\x9cDriver\xe2\x80\x99s Vehicle Inspection Report\xe2\x80\x9d and note any problems or issues.

Maintains driver log according to I.C. regulations.

Assists workers in loading and unloading truck.

Keeps track of all delivery tickets and necessary paperwork.

Must be able to tarp and un-tarp trailers as necessary.

Able to hook up and un-hook trailer.

Able to back trailer and dump safely into the paving machine, if required.

Ensure the bed of the trailer is empty and clean prior to placing other materials in the bed.

Applies slip agent as needed in trailer bed prior to loading at asphalt plant, if required.

Performs safe tarping of load and checks tailboard and removes loose particles every load.

Education and/or Experience

Less than high school education; or up to one month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10\'s and 100\'s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

CDL, class A minimum

Current medical card - Employee will be required to see a company designated physician to maintain their medical card.

MVR - 3 yr history less than 6 points

Other Skills and Abilities

Ability to operate different types of heavy equipment (loader, etc.) and mechanical skills are helpful but not required.
