Department OverviewThis position is required to work 8 hour shifts 3 days a week, work must be done in the same shift
Ex: The ability to work 3 day shifts or 3 swing shifts or 3 night shifts (shifts listed below)
Day [9 AM - 5:30 PM (0900 - 1730)]
Swing [1 PM - 9:30 PM (1300 - 2130)] Nights [11 PM - 7:30 AM (2300 - 0730)]This is the second level of a two-level series. It is distinguished from the lower level by the responsibility for performing a wide variety of assignments and the assignment of more complex duties including the transferring and transportation of patients. This position is also responsible to perform all functions of the lower level, Transportation Aide 1 responsibilities. All transporting work is completed using the Teletracking transportation software and the current technology used to obtain transportation jobs.Function/Duties of Position
Transports patients using wheelchair, stretcher, hospital bed, and morgue cart to and from various locations include, but not limited to: nursing units, diagnostics, pre-op, life flight pad and morgue. Transfer patients to and from stretcher, hospital bed, exam table and wheelchair using transportation-assist devices such as Hovermatts, Slipps, slider boards and backboards.
Transports medical equipment, mail, labs, blood products and supplies to and from various locations within the OHSU environment. These locations are, but not limited to: nursing units, diagnostic areas, clinics, exam rooms, operating rooms, laboratories, morgue or offices.
Operates elevators for patient and equipment movement. Relieves elevator attendants for breaks.
Cleans and disinfects transportation medical equipment: stretchers, wheelchairs, morgue carts, HoverMatts, pillows and utility transport carts
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent
Enrolled in or on vacation from or is otherwise registered in: Undergraduate Program (minimum 6 credit hours), OR Graduate Program (minimum 4.5 credit hours). Must be enrolled in school somewhere even if on vacation.
Ability to communicate well with others
Ability to safely lift and transfer patients, equipment, supplies
Must be responsible and properly trained in the transportation of bio-hazardous items within 90 days of hire
Knowledge of Hospital Transportation Procedures
Experience in safe lifting, and transporting of patients, equipment, and supplies
Ability to prioritize a call and know when to call the dispatcher for assistance
Ability to determine, troubleshoot and deliver specimens to the correct lab in a timely manner
Ability to prioritize assignments to maximize customer satisfaction
Must be physically able to perform transportation duties safely and unsupervised
Also willing to rotate through daily assignments
Good communication skills with the public and staff
The ability to function under stressful situations
Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions
Within 90 days of hire the employee will take the following certification programs: Body Mechanics, 0/2 gauge handling, Isolation precautions
All employees must report for work at their assigned time, and report to work in the proper uniform
Ability to adhere to transportation services attendance policy
This position must also take the mandatory on line training courses offered here at OHSU
Rotating shifts when needed
Exposure to human and tissue/fluids
Ability to stand for long periods of time while transporting patients and materials throughout OHSU campus
Ability to carry and lift up to 50 lbs.
Ability to use departmental equipment such as stretchers, wheelchairs, medical oxygen, vertical lifts, and hover matts
Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation
