Position overview Position title: Transportation Equity Postdoctoral Scholar, UCLA Lewis Center for Regional Policy Studies and Institute of Transportation StudiesSalary range: Starting at $71,908 annually, 3.5% increases each October 1 per collective bargaining agreement. Applications will continue to be accepted until this date, but those received after the review date will only be considered if the position has not yet been filled.Position descriptionWe seek applications for a full-time Postdoctoral Scholar to research (a) post-pandemic travel behavior and its implications for policy and planning and (b) the effects of emerging transportation equity pilot programs. The successful candidate will work as part of an interdisciplinary research team led by Professors Evelyn Blumenberg (Urban Planning) and Brian Taylor (Urban Planning and Public Policy).We are recruiting up to two postdoctoral scholars who will assist with both the development of research proposals and the execution of funded research on a variety of topics. Projects include, but are not limited to:
  • Evaluation of the Los Angeles mobility wallet pilot program, including a random control trial, working with LADOT and LA Metro
  • A vehicle lending library (carshare program) for family self-sufficiency program recipients in the City of LA housing choice voucher program, working with the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles
  • Post-pandemic changes in commute time and distance
  • Impact of super commuting on equity and sustainability
  • Equity implications of new mobility services and technologies.
The scholar will have approximately 80% of their appointment time covered by funded research, and the remaining 20% will be available for the successful applicant\'s own research. There also may be opportunities to teach transportation courses; however, this is not a requirement of the position, and is at the discretion of relevant academic departments. In addition to salary, UCLA Lewis Center/ITS will provide the postdoc with $3,000 to attend academic or professional conferences.Applications are open to all qualified candidates, but we especially encourage applications from women, nonbinary people, people of color, and other backgrounds underrepresented in transportation.Unit:Unit:QualificationsBasic qualifications (required at time of application)
  • PhD expected by summer 2024 in Urban Planning, Public Policy, Civil Engineering, or related discipline
  • Demonstrated interest and knowledge of travel behavior and transportation equity
  • Record of peer-reviewed publications in the fields of public policy, urban planning, transportation, and/or related areas
  • PhD must have been awarded by an accredited institution within the past 10 years
