is hiring Type 1 Wildland Firefighters to fill seasonal, on-call positions in Redding, California for the upcoming season and beyond. The Annual Safety Refresher Training and Work Capacity Test may be obtained from any NWCG certified provider (universities and community colleges or private providers) or at no cost from Mountaineers (training time will not be compensated).
Compensation:
The base hourly rate is $30.00/hour with an additional $4.93/hour Health and Welfare Benefit paid on the first 40 hours worked in a workweek, for a total of $34.93/hour when functioning in the FFT1 role.
Overtime is paid on all hours worked over 8 in a calendar day.
Hours worked over 8 and up to 12 are paid at 1.5 times the base hourly rate - $45.00/hour.
Hours worked over 12 in a calendar day are paid at double the base hourly rate - $60.00/hour.
Hours worked over 40 in a week are also paid at the overtime rate, even if not over 8 in a calendar day.
Base hourly rates may be higher depending on a candidate's experience and qualifications.
Company drivers are paid an additional hourly incentive.
Additional training and promotion opportunities are available through continued employment with the company.
Successful candidates will:
be legally authorized to work in the United States;
live within 6 hours of our base in Redding, CA or relocate to the area for the season;
provide documentation verifying that all applicable NWCG training and position standards have been met, complete the Annual Safety Refresher Training, and pass the Work Capacity Test;
be available 24 hours a day to respond immediately and consistently to dispatch calls for emergency incident assignments which typically last 14 days but which may be extended to 30 days, exclusive of travel;
be team- and safety-oriented, flexible, able to take direction well, and willing to tolerate harsh working conditions while on emergency assignments;
take responsibility for subordinates, leading them effectively, respectfully, and in an organized manner to achieve incident management goals and objectives;
be able to hike in steep terrain and safely and productively use hand tools and other equipment to contain, control, and suppress wildfire.
