Northern Star continues to invest in building a strong asset base through strategic acquisitions and aggressive exploration to extend the mine lives across its world-class operations and generate earning accretive value for its Shareholders through operational effectiveness.Due to growth and expansion, Northern Star (Pogo) LLC have a challenging and rewarding opportunity for an Underground Safety & Training Coordinator at our world-class Pogo operation in Alaska on a rotational camp schedule.What\'s the role?The Safety & Training Coordinator reports to the Senior Safety & Training Coordinator, and the primary role is to provide training and safety support which is compliant to the national, corporate and legislative standards and to implement a skills base training program to the Mining Department.Duties include:

  • Ensure personnel are adequately inducted and trained in their work area and are aware of all workplace rules and critical procedures applying at site.
  • Actively contribute to new initiatives and implement change as directed by the Project Manager and the site management team.
  • Actively promote, monitor and enforce compliance of personnel with safe work practices.
  • Participate in incident investigations to establish root cause of incidents and determine corrective actions.
  • Facilitate and participate in the Formal Risk Assessment process.
  • Monitor procedural systems, processes and training for the underground mining operations in accordance with the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) Act & Regulations.
  • Undertake and record regular inspection of underground working areas, stockpiles, waste dumps, etc. to ensure safe operations.
  • Host daily safety meetings for underground mining.
  • Maintain an accurate and full account of all standard operating procedures, emergency procedures and plans and Job Hazard Analysis\'.
  • Ensure all safety related activities are undertaken in accordance with Company policy and MSHA requirements including Hazard ID\'s, pre-start checks, pre-start meetings, and incident reporting.

  • Blue Card certification preferred (Underground)
  • Experience working in a mechanized hard-rock underground mine required.
  • Practical experience in the interpretation and application of the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) Act & Regulations required.
  • Experience in incident investigation and reporting.
  • Demonstrated experience in competency-based training and assessment methods and delivery of training materials to crews.
  • Auditing or inspection experience.
  • Good skills in spreadsheet, presentation, word processing and database applications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across all levels.
  • Report writing and presentation skills.
  • Flexibility to adapt to improved procedures and practices.
  • Be able to pass a background check and post offer physical.
The Details:Working a 21 days on, 21 days off schedule of days, up to 12 hours a day or more at a remote campsite. Extreme conditions, including but not limited to extreme and changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area.Employees are required to stay on site at the company provided camp during the work rotation. Camp facilities provide dining service, games room, exercise & weight room, sauna, and accommodation rooms. Dormitory rooms have a land line phone, great Wi-Fi & cable TV. Cell service is available through Wi-Fi. The Company provides a bus service to and from Fairbanks, Delta Junction and Tok, Alaska.What do we offer?
