  • This posting will be used to fill multiple statewide vacancies.
This position may be filled as either a Probational or a Job Appointment (open to all qualified applicants); a Promotion (open to all statewide classified and Agency wide permanent status employees); or by Detail to Special Duty. Current permanent status, classified employees may be required to accept a Probational appointment if selected. If filled as a Job Appointment, there is a possibility that this position may be converted to a Probational Appointment should funding become available.

As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a Unemployment Insurance Tax Agent 1, 2 or 3 depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s). Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A baccalaureate degree with nine semester hours in accounting and an additional fifteen semester hours in any one or combination of the following: accounting, auditing, business, finance, management, economics, quantitative methods, or information systems.

SUBSTITUTIONS:

A certified public accountant (CPA) certificate, Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) designation will substitute for the baccalaureate degree with twenty-four semester hours of the required coursework.

A baccalaureate degree plus a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) or Certified Government Audit Professional (CGAP) designation will substitute for the twenty-four semester hours of required coursework.

A master\'s degree in accounting, auditing, business administration, finance, management, economics, quantitative methods, public administration, or information systems and decision sciences will substitute for the twenty-four semester hours of required coursework.

NOTE:
Any college hours or degree must be from a school accredited by one of the following regional accrediting bodies: the Middle States Commission on Higher Education; the New England Commission of Higher Education; the Higher Learning Commission; the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities; the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools; and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

Job Concepts

Function of Work:
To learn to conduct field audits of employer records as required or assigned to determine correctness of tax reports, and to obtain information relative to employer liability and status, experience rating, and employer wages.

Level of Work:
Entry.

Supervision Received:
Close supervision from Unemployment Insurance Tax Agent 3.

Supervision Exercised:
None.

Location of Work:
Department of Labor; Regulatory Services, field locations, statewide.

Job Distinctions:
Differs from Unemployment Insurance Tax Agent 2 by lack of responsibility for full performance auditors tasks.

Examples of Work

UNDER CLOSE SUPERVISION:
Computes and collects current and delinquent unemployment insurance taxes from employers within district.

Contacts employers new to the district to establish employment insurance accounts and inform them of their obligations.

Responds to inquiries from the public regarding employment security laws and programs.

Audits payroll records of employers to ensure the correct amount has been paid in unemployment insurance taxes and benefits to claimants.

Researches and identifies new employers within their district.
